@GamersNexus Great investigation. Alternate possibility: dead pump. That temperature spike is odd. Even w/o fans running & pump on, the AIO should still take several minutes to reach thermal saturation.

By popular demand, we re-mounted the cooler on the Cyberpower PC and ran the thermal test again with their cooler. There was 0 change. You would still need to buy another cooler and rebuild part of the prebuilt, which defeats its purpose. The CPU still runs at 95.6 degrees Celsius, which means it has now failed our test twice. You would need to buy another cooler to make the system run with adequate cooling (stated this in the conclusion already, so there's no change there). Background info: The most recent pre-built PC we reviewed was built by Cyberpower and exhibited thermal throttling. In addition to a highly restrictive case design, the system also uses a poorly performing set of fans, poorly performing CPU cooler, and had a bad mount from the cooler to the CPU. It continues to run at 95.6C even after we mounted it properly and ran it with the fans at 100% speeds, which benefit it even further. Our challenge to Cyberpower is for them to get the thermals on track by the time we buy their next prebuilt in 6 months, because most the other details were excellently done, so this was a big let-down on the thermals. Their attention to detail on the drivers was great. We hope they can fix the thermal situation, as they have failed here numerous times over the last decade of our undercover purchase tests.

@PhilAndrew61181 If you simply want them approximately evenly spread you can just do a single overflowing multiplication by an odd number. Say 11400714819323198485, and you can get the original number back by multiplying by the multiplicative inverse 17428512612931826493.

@NoHatCoder @cmuratori Is there a good hash to use on 40bit numbers? I have a series of 64bit IDs and there's a lot of gaps in them which isn't balanced when inserting into a hash table. Maybe I should multiple and add a prime

@R0b0tSp1der @freshyjmp @cmuratori It is not as if this is a rare story. Combining overpriced cloud services with bad technology choices and general over engineering makes it really easy to incur a 100x cost overhead. Lots of businesses just don't care because it is still a "small" expenditure.

He was insistent that we needed to build systems that "could scale to billions of devices and trillions of messages". It was *absolutely* the wrong way to go about doing it. I saw other companies eclipsing us, as it took 6+ months for basic services to be authored. And it distracted him from actual, real practical engineering. Like ... using a cheapo document database, instead of paying $15k/month (nearly $1 per device per month!) to Google for Bigtable.

Can we just call it "Ruby on Snails" and stop arguing? That way everyone is on the same page.

Since it keeps coming up: where is the actual data about ChatGPT using "delve" more than humans? As far as I can tell, humans use "delve" frequently when writing - less often than "dive", to be sure, but it's not that uncommon:
