For event world creators, going anywhere above 1 million tris will start to tank FPS in VR. An 80-person instance of 70k avatars is 5.6 million tris. Factor in what directional lights do to tris in Unity (which is required for VRSL lights), that doubles to +/- 11.2 million tris.

@OMGDucki Poly limit doenst makes sense since even a poor pc can handle millions of polygons without a big peeformance impact, the real problems are phys bones, textures and lights

Hair, head and body adding up to 81k tris is disgusting. The problem with polygon count is 100% on Booth authors, not VRChat. 70k tris is a perfectly reasonable amount for a normal avatar. Unfortunately, if you grab a modern avatar base off Booth it's very hard to achieve.

This is a modern Booth avatar. Adding the performance gating system before re-evaluating the performance ranks risks alienating new players or those inexperienced with optimization. Polycount as a standalone metric is a poor performance indicator, this shouldn't be very-poor.

Decimation is NOT easy without paid tools or learning to use Blender, which even then doesn't do a good job without substantial wrangling. That's not a bar the average user should be forced to meet to upload an avatar.
