Dear @myNSFAS Your response is noted, thank you. This is a marked shift in tone from #NSFAS towards #OUTA’s investigation into the #StudentAccommodation system. We welcome the commitment to investigate the issues raised in our report. But talk is cheap. Students and accommodation providers have been neglected for far too long. Now we need to see real #accountability.

Alarms of an R8/litre increase in the price of petrol are over exaggerated at the current price of Brent crude (US$92 barrel), which is some 50% up on last months average. The Basic Fuel Price (BFP), component (which is impacted by Brent Crude price and ZAR:US$ exchange rate) is currently R8.66 /L (or 43%) of our total petrol price (R20.30) in Gauteng. Even if the Rand goes to R17 to the US$, and Brent crude to $100 /barrel, our petrol price will be around R4.30 higher than the current price, taking us to R24.50 /L. Our petrol price was last at these levels in June 2024, when the Rand was at R18.44:$ and Crude Oil at $82.24 /barrel. If the Rand went to R18 to the US$, and Brent crude increased by whopping 80% above the February average, to $120 /barrel, only then our petrol price would breach R28/L. Not impossible, but highly unlikely.
