🚨 Arsenal are now being linked with Illan Meslier... and if the move happens, it will continue one of the most fascinating stories of Mikel Arteta's reign. Since taking charge in December 2019, Arteta has rebuilt almost every area of Arsenal's squad. But no position has seen more change than goalkeeper. Think about it. Arteta inherited Bernd Leno as his No. 1 and Emi Martínez as his backup. Six and a half years later, neither is at the club, David Raya is the undisputed first choice, Kepa Arrizabalaga is the backup, and Arsenal are now being linked with Meslier. It's been a remarkable journey. When Arteta arrived, Leno looked untouchable. Martínez had spent years out on loan and was widely seen as a reliable backup rather than Arsenal's future. Then fate intervened. Leno suffered a serious injury against Brighton towards the end of the 2019/20 season, giving Martínez the opportunity he'd waited almost a decade for. He grabbed it with both hands. Martínez produced a series of outstanding performances, helping Arsenal win the FA Cup and then the Community Shield. Many supporters believed Arsenal had discovered their long-term No. 1. Instead, Arteta and the club made one of the biggest decisions of his tenure. Martínez wanted guaranteed first-team football, while Arteta continued to back Leno. The Argentine was sold to Aston Villa, and the debate over whether Arsenal made the right choice has never truly disappeared. That was only the beginning. Since then, Arsenal have continued to reshape the goalkeeping department almost every season. Alex Rúnarsson arrived in 2020 but never established himself. Mat Ryan joined on loan in January 2021 to add experience. Aaron Ramsdale was signed in the summer of 2021 and he quickly won over the fans and replaced Leno as Arsenal's No. 1. Leno then departed for Fulham. In 2022, Matt Turner arrived from MLS to provide competition before leaving a year later. Then came perhaps Arteta's boldest goalkeeping decision. Despite Ramsdale playing a huge role in Arsenal's title challenge, Arteta signed David Raya and wasn't afraid to make him the new first-choice goalkeeper. The decision divided opinion at first. Today, it looks fully justified. Raya won the Premier League Golden Glove and has firmly established himself as Arsenal's No. 1. Ramsdale eventually moved on in search of regular football. The rebuild didn't stop there. Neto was brought in on loan Last summer, Arsenal pushed hard to sign Joan García as Raya's deputy. A deal couldn't be completed before García eventually joined Barcelona. Instead, Arsenal signed Kepa Arrizabalaga to strengthen the position. Now, with reports linking Arsenal to Illan Meslier, another goalkeeper could be about to enter Arteta's ever-evolving project. For a manager who is obsessed with control, build-up play and fine margins, it's no surprise that he has constantly revisited the one position that starts every attack. No area of Arteta's squad has been rebuilt more often than the goalkeeping department. But here's the question: Does this constant turnover show Arteta's relentless pursuit of perfection, or does it suggest he has never truly been satisfied with the goalkeepers he has chosen himself?👇 #AFC

good morning football fans…. if messi wins this world cup at 39, he might potentially win the ballon d’or over every europe-based player in the conversation? a MLS player winning it off international form alone would be unheard of. give me your honest take, not the biased one

Do you remember the World Cup in 1994 in USA? Maybe you don't, so let me remind you about Norway in that tournament. In their second ever appearance at the World Cup, Norway turned up with three key players who birthed the next generation in: Erik Thorstvedt (father of current player Kristian Thorstvedt), Goran Sorloth (father of current player Alexander Sorloth), and Alf-Inge Haland (father of current player Erling Haaland). They earned their first-ever World Cup win with a 1-0 win vs Mexico but eventually crashed out in the Group stage. They appeared again in the 1998 World Cup in France with the likes of Stale Solbakken (Norway's current manager) and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of Manchester United. They exited the competition in the Round of 16, but before doing so, they pulled off a massive upset by defeating the then-reigning champions Brazil 2-1 in the group stage. After a 28 year absence, after narrowly missing out of qualification in 2022, they have done it again against Brazil in the USA! But this time in the quarter-finals! And the main man rowing this boat is ERLING BRAUT HAALAND. I always look forward to see the reaction of Alfie Haaland to his son's performance after each game, and it's always been one of pure relief and joy of what his son is doing on the pitch. What he could not do for Norway, he's seeing his son accomplish it and more! Now speaking of Haaland, we must acknowledge what this guy is doing is NOT NORMAL. Norway should not be getting this far if we look at it from a clearer perspective. They have been absent from the World Cup for 28 years, and the closest they've been to qualifying was in 2022 where they were narrowly eliminated in a qualifying group containing Netherlands and Turkey. Asides their defensive issues, one of the major reasons for their elimination was injuries to Haaland. He missed 4 games out of the 10 qualifiers of which they won only one, drew two and lost their final game away against the Netherlands. Despite this, he still scored 5 goals and was their top scorer. But this time, he carried Norway on their back and led them to the World Cup, despite not wearing the captain's armband. He scored 16 goals in 8 games, becoming the second player to do so after Lewandowski, and became the second player to score in all qualifying matches since Lewa in recent history and arrived at his first World Cup in style. People still doubted if he'd continue this fantastic run, but he has proved ALL doubters wrong in his first four games. Starting out against Iran, Haaland scored a brace in the first half, including one where he chased down the keeper fiercely to score. When we thought he couldn't surprise us, he showed up with another brace in his second game, including a delightful loop unto the bar which crashed in. He was benched against France to rest the whole squad, which a lot of people criticized online but that decision has proved to be the best so far. They faced Ivory Coast in the Round of 32, which they won 2-1. But the funny thing about this game was that Haaland was not doing much! He had just 27 touches, 5 in the opposition box, but in the 86th minute, he popped up out of nowhere with a tap-in. And before you say "oh, it's just a tap in", you must realize it happened because of his movement. His movement is incredible. The way he evades his markers to score is second to none, as we saw in the way he evaded Gabriel in their 2-1 win against Brazil. We can keep talking about Haaland and his greatness, but it is worth noting that he has done it on multiple stages, yet still surprises us. He did it for Salzburg, for Dortmund, currently for Manchester City and in the Champions League. And when people say "he cannot do it on the big stage", he replies with this phenomenal performance, on football's biggest stage, the World Cup. This performance against Brazil has etched his name in football legacy and is in contention for the greatest goal-scorer of all time. And who knows what records will be left by the time he'd be done with his career. Erling Braut Haaland, take a bow. ERLING HAALAND... FOREVER ETCHED IN OUR MEMORIES🫡
