The only "defence problem" Asia has is the USA military presence in the region, and it's push to arm every nation under its influence to, as it sees, contain China. As I see it semi-blockade.
As the article itself says although the headline writer seems not have noticed:
"US intelligence confirmed last week that Beijing was not planning to invade Taiwan in 2027, but would instead attempt to take control of the island without the use of force."
Which is of course what China has been stating all along, with the caveat that it would except no independence move or foreign military interference in its own province.
