The US services sector is signaling stagflation: The ISM Services PMI fell -2.1 points in March, to 54.0, missing expectations of 54.9. Meanwhile, the employment index dropped -6.6 points, to 45.2, the weakest since December 2023 and deep in contraction territory. On the other hand, prices paid surged +7.7 points, to 70.7, the highest since October 2022, as the Iran war drove energy costs higher. The economy is caught between rising prices and a weakening labor market. Higher inflation is coming.

@Jack_McClendon You don’t get credit for not committing war crimes. Trump also deserves criticism

It was a TACO, a big beautiful TACO because the alternative was insane. But please dont insult us and call this a victory. Yes we smashed the Iranians military but it would have been insane if we wouldnt have been able to. We also smashed Saddams Army and the Taliban for 20 years and no one would say we won those wars. Winning wars achieve strategic aims (no Iran nukes, no more support for Houthis/Hamas/Hezbollah, no long range missiles, etc). As of now none of that has been achieved. But credit Trump for TACO’ing out of his own insane self imposed deadline and demands because the alternative was terrible.

@VolgareT @Rory_Johnston And Iran followed up with this statement changing their 10 point plan and making it more maximalist. Try to keep up

@Rory_Johnston Can you stop lying? They said both America's 15-point plan and Iran's 10-point plan are the basis for negotiations. Jesus fucking Christ. Stop already.

THIS is very different from the list of 10-points that has been floating around for the last few days.

@Buffering666 @gbrew24 Sure they’re weaker today but this war means they’ll be stronger in the long run. They’ll crack down harder in future protests and those protestors now know the West isn’t coming to save them. And Iran now maintains control over the Straight

@gbrew24 The domestic protest movement that resurfaces every 1-2 years in Iran with ever greater ferocity will face a weakened regime next time around. It’s a “TBD” situation for sure but by no means a defeat for the US when Iran is clearly weaker today vs 4 weeks ago.

Explain to me like I’m 5 years old how shredding Iran’s military industrial complex for 4 weeks & killing scores of senior leadership while exposing the regime as an untrustworthy band of pirates is a defeat for the USA.
Gregory Brew@gbrew24

If the war truly ends with Iran in possession of the strait of Hormuz--as is currently the case--and if negotiations proceed according to Iran's 10-points, which include full sanctions relief and Iran charging tolls for use of the strait, then the outcome of the war will be clear. And it won't be a US victory.

@Rory_Johnston don't even understand why people consider this any different than the last 15 times he did this? simply because his tweet was more unhinged? "on the condition that Iran will be reopening the Strait of Hormuz."

@ParticularPoopy @HedgeDirty we've been in the middle of a populist wave for about a decade now, and i'll be real with you, it hasn't really affected me. i'm doing just fine the people it's been bad for are the populists. them threatening to self-harm is not a particularly concerning threat

@ParticularPoopy @HedgeDirty This is one of the many examples of why it's foolish for us to allow entry of low-value immigrants from culturally incompatible areas. It's a disaster for schools, healthcare, quality of life, government finances, everything.

@HeywoodFloyd10 @HedgeDirty The National Academy of Sciences did the most comprehensive study ever done on this. Low wage immigrants are a net positive when you account for what they pay into Social Security and Medicare they can never collect. Your whole argument rests on a lie.

@ParticularPoopy @HedgeDirty They won't be employed or paying taxes once self-driving cars replace them. Even now, many earn such low incomes that they are a net burden because they consume far more in services and assistance than they pay in taxes. We'll be much better off with them gone.

@HeywoodFloyd10 @HedgeDirty Uber drivers are employed and paying taxes, the opposite of a drain. Deportation also costs thousands per person in enforcement and legal fees. So the net economic plus is deporting working taxpayers at public expense on the bet that robot cars replace them someday

@ParticularPoopy @HedgeDirty Obviously, the native Uber drivers won't be deported. But the deportation of the others will be a huge net economic plus, since unskilled, and unemployed people are nothing but a drain.
