First aid courses, including CPR training, should be taught in all schools as a mandatory part of the curriculum. Maybe at around Year 6 or 7.

@Jontafkasi @anon_opin I actually disagree. The shift from black & white to colour was an instant with huge impact. But smartphones slowly got more internet-enabled and we'd had internet on computers/laptops for a while, so it was less of a sudden 'Wow!'.

For anyone in their late 50s or so the moment you saw your first colour TV in your own home is the biggest leap in technology that you will ever experience. Nothing will ever come close. Everything since then is simply diminishing returns.

@Psythor Wouldn't surprise me if in the next decade there was a notable reduction in crime which gets lots of arguments about credit and in reality is just this, much as burglar alarms and CCTV cut robberies/burglaries kinda by default.

@hopisen I've always wondered why all endurance athletes don't shave their head to cool off a bit compared to the insulation of hair. Seems the sweating and heat is a real issue, but they don't feel it would be worth it.

I’d love to have explanation of why sprint athletes are willing to carry extra weight in watches/jewellery or accept drag resist of long hair (or for distance runners useless weight, esp when wet). I’m sure they know, and it’s not significant, but maths wld be interesting!

@Samfr Hope you are enjoying the climbing. Looks like McArthur will fall just short but not impossible for him, one error by a couple of people and he stays in the medals. All down to Toby's lead run which could put him anywhere.

Nafi Thiam got 54.04 in the heptathlon javelin. That gives her a lead of 121 points over KJT. Which is equivalent to 8.3 seconds in the 800m. The difference between their PBs is around 6 seconds (in KJT's favour). So Thiam is ahead but it's not impossible for KJT.

Quick reminder that with Biden out of the race, Trump is now the oldest major-party candidate in the 236 year history of US presidential elections. He also has the chance to become the first since Adlai Stevenson in the 1950s to lose twice.

Trump is clearly still so pissed off that Biden has withdrawn. But Harris will keep to the narrative of Trump running away and her supporters will no doubt suggest reasons as to why, most obviously that he fears how he'd do. I think he'll continue to duck it and it'll cost him.

Donald Trump backs out of a previously scheduled presidential debate on ABC after Kamala Harris replaces Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket. Now he says he’ll agree to debate Harris if it’s hosted by Fox News in a “full arena audience.”

He's not a stupid guy, but why tweet something like this? Perhaps he thinks his job is just vibes. That he gives a rough sense of what's going on. He doesn't call races or rock the boat. But some things are very predictable. It's his job to predict them.

What is @gelliottmorris talking about? He acts as if voters and political actors can't change in response to unfavourable forecasts. "why even hold the election?" Because the GOP can still change their strategy. The Dems did this a week ago. It worked. I don't get him.

If, and it's a big If, Harris maintains positive approval ratings up to election day you'd have to suspect that would translate to a solid popular vote win. Trump has never been a very popular candidate, he was just more popular than Biden who had awful approvals by mid-2024.

@ZeusODea Been a fair few scandals. Life (SC2), iBuyPower (CSGO), and others. Although following the big scenes they seem clean at the top by and large. Dodgy results with widespread suspicion not common.
