@dilanesper I get your point. The NFL wildly overreacted to Kaepernick, he was still good enough to play, and what happened to him wasn’t fair. I agree with that. But I also agree that he brought a declining set of skills and a lot of unwanted attention and that turned teams off.

@dilanesper Part of the reason it received so much attention was because the league really handled it very poorly, but that’s an entirely different discussion.

Colin Kaepernick was banished from football for engaging in individual expression in a team sport. The fact that a white player gets to refuse to participate in a team activity to express a conservative view shows a double standard in sports.

@dilanesper Sure, but he was a distraction that pulled attention away from the team (and may have caused issues in the locker room) and coaches HATE that.

@ProgPilgrim Their defense gave up 30 points a game that year, highest in the NFL. That had a lot more to do with the team's record than anything Kaepernick was doing.

@theramblingfool Yeah. If you’re going to indict an ex-president, you need a rock solid, open and shut case. I’m worried that’s not the situation here.

@dilanesper Don’t you also think it’s possible that the team went 2-14 that year in part because of the distraction? I don’t have a problem at all with the kneeling because I’m fan and I strongly believe in free expression, but I am also guessing it was a pretty big annoyance to the coach.

@dilanesper I do think if a team wanted to take a flier in him, no one would have stood in its way. I don’t necessarily think all teams made the right calculus with him, but I understand the reasoning. Teams really don’t like distractions.
