@0Beanie05923291 As someone who is pro-use of AI as a learning tool. I agreed with you. People using the tool have to be able read, write, discern, and be critical of interactions with AI. Critical Thinking is key. Reading and Writing is fundamental to critical thinking.

Some people think spending too much time teaching fundamentals like reading (physical books), writing (by hand), math facts (and mental math), and a clear chronology of the past is a waste of time because the next generation will have AI and won’t need to know those things.
I say we focus on teaching those things well so this next generation can decide for themselves if they want to delegate the task of thinking and knowing to technology or not. Depriving them of the skills and knowledge deprives them of any choice in the matter. That’s not freedom nor is it true human flourishing.

@JamesAFurey Reading Great Illustrated Classics in elementary school made me want to read the "real" version in high school. This is called scaling to Lexile Level and pedagogy.

They want your kids to read “Abridged classics” because they are desperately begging them to read ANYTHING.
Literally that’s it.
One of the hardest tasks for English teachers all over the country is just to get your kids to pick up a book and read it.
It’s not a freaking conspiracy to keep Johnny stupid; it’s in reaction to Johnny already being stupid.

They want your kids to read “Abridged classics” so they don’t accidentally become intelligent, erudite and wise from reading classic stories in their original language, as children once read them all the time. And so they can remove any “political incorrectness”.

@DanaPalubiak Students should be reading, talking about what they are reading, and writing about what they are reading. This applies to math as well. Students should be able to defend their answers and show their work. But beginning in Grade 3 we teach them life is multiple choice.

@TolentinoTeach If the only state tests a K-5 student saw was a writing test, and teachers were able to help students learn to read, write, comprehend, and express themselves, this "Crisis" would balance itself.

@TolentinoTeach All of this started with the "Accountability" Movement, which used tests as a gotcha for teachers. One reason education is failing is that we are teaching students life through multiple-choice starting in 3rd Grade.

Teachers often notice the cracks before the data does.
Right now, many are seeing:
– A sharp drop in focus during reading and writing (thanks to cell phones)
– A growing dependence on AI to think and write
We’re not heading for a learning crisis.
We’re already in one.

My uneducated guess is they dont want people changing likeness. Hair, tattoos, facepaint/makeup. But also, they got the island on PC this year. So they dont want branded items showing up on CC.

I agree with her.
As a mixed kid growing up in Kentucky in the early 90's I was a black kid to the white people and I was a white kid to the black people.
But as I grew older I felt so much more acceptance and most all my friends were from the black community. So naturally thats what felt right for me.
But it took me a while to understand and realize that being mixed is the best!
