@FsTebza @AdvoBarryRoux What worries me is he didn't tell his now previous lawyer, the lawyer was under the impression that this was his mother. Had he been clear with the lawyer he would have let him know that the law requires him to be specific that it's his step mother.

I do not agree with Adv Sello Mahlape’s view that Julius Mkhwanazi lied. #MadlangaCommission must consider cultural context. In our culture, terms like step or half family are rarely used. Family is viewed broadly, so this should not be treated as misrepresentation or contempt.

@MfundisiQiniso @uMaster_Sandz @pule_jones The commission is already considering retracting the subpoena, it is definite move. This won't necessarily save him from investigations and prosecution but it may mitigate his sentence, should he face charges of money laundering at all.

This presents a very interesting and contentious point. Was his statement, "I'm burying my mother," a misrepresentation? Was it obligatory for him to specify, "I'm burying my 'stepmother'"? Culturally, a stepmother is often considered equivalent to a mother, is that not the case?
