JUST IN: TWO MEN LINKED TO FIREARMS SEEN IN VIRAL VIDEO ARRESTED, FIREARMS SEIZED The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested two men linked to firearms seen in a viral video circulating on social media in which women are seen recklessly and negligently handling firearms. Following the circulation of the video, SAPS Gauteng Crime Intelligence launched a tracing operation which led officers to Tembisa, Gauteng, where the suspects were located and arrested. The firearms seen in the video were seized by police and preliminary investigations reveal that the firearms are unlicensed. During the operation, the suspects were also found in possession of a hijacked vehicle. Gauteng Crime Intelligence is continuing with profiling and investigations into the suspects. The two men aged 21 and 34 have been arrested for contravention of the Firearms Control Act, the illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as being in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle. Police are continuing with investigations to trace the women seen in the video recklessly and negligently handling the firearms. The Acting National Commissioner of the SAPS, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has commended Gauteng Crime Intelligence for their swift response in tracing the suspects linked to the firearms seen in the video. The Acting National Commissioner said the arrests send a strong warning that the reckless handling and display of firearms on will not be tolerated and that police will act decisively against those who break the law. Police further warn members of the public against the reckless handling and display of firearms, as such conduct endangers lives and constitutes a serious criminal offence. The suspects are expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrate's Court next week.

Chaskalson says that can't be the source. Mogotsi insists that it was. He says the person who was expected to come to the commission was killed. Chaskalson says the person who passed away (Brigadier Duma) three days after they met their handler is someone the commission knew about. Chaskalson states that Mogotsi statement identifies the co-handler they encountered, rather than the deceased officer. Furthermore, Chaskalson notes that the handler provided limited information regarding Mogotsi. NB: Brigadier Sipho Mtshengiseni Duma was a senior officer and Acting Provincial Head of Crime Intelligence in Gauteng for the SAPS. He passed away in early February 2026 and was laid to rest during an official state funeral in Ennerdale, South Africa. Mogotsi stated that he would meet Brigadier Duma at his office. Mogotsi further indicated that he did not sign the visitor's register during his meeting with Brigadier Duma. Chaskalson states that Mogotsi's co-handler indicated their meeting took place in Bryanston. @eNCA

The prosecutor tells the court he is unavailable on Monday. This after bail application for all four accused were argued in court. Both the prosecutor and the chief magistrate are from Mbombela. They are both not from Kwaggafontein. Meaning they have to travel over two hours to get back. Legal teams are asking to continue into the evening given the urgency of this matter & they believe their clients should be considered for bail today. Not Monday or Tuesday. Joe ‘Ferrari’ Sibanyoni, Bafana Sindane and the other two accused plan to plead not guilty to the charges of extortion & money laundering. @eNCA #eNCA #BafanaSindane #JoeSibanyoni

Accused number 4, Oupa Bafana Sindane, tells the court that he employs 70 people. His main business is transport taxi services. He supports his wife and three children. His oldest child works for him and the others are in school/studying. Sindane tells the court that because he handed himself over to the authorities, despite both police and the court saying he fled and was not cooperating, he believes because he handed himself over, it proves he is willing to go to trial and respects the rule of law. @eNCA #eNCA

@eNCA The magistrate has asked for an adjournment. She’s told the court she needs to deal with something that’s been bothering her. The bail application for accused three was being read out before court adjourned. @eNCA #BafanaSindane #JoeSibanyoni

@eNCA Baloyi inquired whether Mogotsi comprehended that the self-incriminating statements could be detrimental to his prosecution. Mogotsi stated that he had received legal advise. Baloyi then asked, "Do you understand?" Mogotsi responded that he wished to avoid prosecution. Addressing Mogotsi: Baloyi distinguishes between declining to answer a question and failing to provide a response. Baloyi indicates that, at times, this distinction is not due to self-incrimination but rather a refusal to address the inquiry.

Mogotsi is being asked a number of questions, including about his communication with Vusimusi Cat Matlala and his "colleagues" within crime intelligence. On numerous occasions now, Mogotsi has made it clear: "I won't incriminate myself." @eNCA Mogotsi says even if General Khumalo and Masemola were at the commission, they wouldn't be subjected to harsh questioning. Chaskalson says there was an attempt by organized crime to frame General Khumalo. Mogotsi says Khumalo was arrested for the irregular appointment of a person into SAPS. Chaskalson wants information at the center of what the inquiry is probing. Mogotsi says he's not declining. He says Khumalo wasn't arrested for the irregular purchase of properties using Secret Service Account funds. He says there's someone who wants to come to the commission to testify about the purchased properties. @eNCA

Joe 'Ferrari' Sibanyoni- In 2021, a wave of taxi related bloodshed sent Checkpoint to Mpumalanga. At the centre of the allegations was Joe Sibanyoni. "Big Five" cartel associated, Sibanyoni whose 2022 attempted murder is on alleged underworld figure “Cat” Matlala‘s charge sheet, is himself now charged with extortion and money laundering. “What does that do to the public confidence of South Africans?” @naledimoleo connects the dots between Phala Phala, SARS, the Reserve Bank, and the growing feeling that South Africans are being asked to trust institutions while simultaneously questioning them. #eNCA Watch the full conversation on Anchor Point here: enca.com/anchor-point-h…
