[EXCLUSIVE] From the glitz of South African reality television to the cold reality of a US interrogation room. Bodycam footage has emerged showing #MelViljoen being grilled by Florida detectives. This follows her and #PeetViljoen's dramatic arrest in Boca Raton for a shoplifting scheme. The pair are back in the country and their legal woes are far from over. SAPS APPOINTS MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM TO INVESTIGATE MURDER OF MARCH AND MARCH GAUTENG LEADER The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, in consultation with the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, has assembled a multidisciplinary team of seasoned detectives and crime intelligence officers to lead the investigation into the murder of March and March Gauteng leader, Mr Andile Mvuyiselwa Somgaxa. Mr Somgaxa was shot in the driveway of his home in Greenfield, Johannesburg, on 03 July 2026 and succumbed to his injuries in hospital on 13 July 2026. Lieutenant General Dimpane has strongly condemned the attack and assured the public that SAPS will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible are identified, traced and brought to justice. "The appointment of a multidisciplinary team underscores the seriousness with which SAPS is treating this matter. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding this murder and to ensure accountability," said Lieutenant General Dimpane. Meanwhile, the Acting National Commissioner has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups who continue to intimidate, harass and perpetrate violence against foreign nationals, stating that such actions are unlawful and will not be tolerated. Lieutenant General Dimpane has welcomed the arrest of five suspects in Lephalale, Limpopo, who allegedly posed as officials from the Department of Home Affairs and unlawfully demanded the removal of foreign nationals from the Marapong township. The incident involved a Nigerian national who was intimidated and forced to close his business after the group allegedly claimed that foreign nationals were not permitted to operate businesses in South Africa. The Department of Home Affaira subsequently verified the individual's documentation and confirmed that he was legally in the country and valid documentation to run his business. "The law applies equally to everyone. No individual or group has the authority to conduct immigration inspections, verify legal status, or remove people from communities. Those responsibilities rest solely with law enforcement agencies and relevant government departments," said Lieutenant General Dimpane. SAPS reminds members of the public that only authorised law enforcement officials may conduct inspections and verify the legal status of individuals within the Republic of South Africa. Any acts of intimidation, vigilantism or violence will be dealt with decisively.

A suspect has been arrested following the robbery of an e-hailing driver in Eldorado Park, JHB. According to police, the driver was robbed of two cellphones in Eldorado Park Extension 1 by two men who allegedly threatened to kill him if he reported the incident to SAPS. Acting on the victim’s description, members of the Eldorado Park SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, assisted by Gauteng Traffic Wardens, traced the suspects to Eldorado Park Extension 3. The suspects fled in different directions after spotting police, but both were apprehended. One of the suspects was identified as being wanted in connection with two attempted murder cases in Eldorado Park Extension 1. The second suspect was found in possession of a cellphone believed to be one of the devices stolen from the e-hailing driver. He was unable to unlock the phone when requested, and the profile picture matched the complainant’s description. He was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and is expected to appear in court as investigations continue.

IDAC investigator Brian Padayachee has insinuated corruption in Major-General Firoz Khan being promoted directly from the rank of Colonel to Major-General He testified at the Madlanga Commission that while there was a provision allowing for a “deviation” from the normal promotion process, Khan’s leap in rank raised questions and warranted closer scrutiny.

Legal analyst Benedict Phiri says this is an opportunity for Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matala to come clean. Matlala is expected to testify before the Madlanga Commission on 15 July. The analyst adds that any self-incriminating evidence Matlala gives to the commission cannot be used directly against him in future criminal proceedings. However, he warns that failing to answer questions could deepen his legal troubles. Tune in to #eNCA, channel #DStv403.
