Good analytical article. But here is a prediction, having written about Pakistan myself. Pakistan will pose as a civilizational ally of North India alone, using commonality of language as glue. I lived and worked in this area for a few years as a brown man. There’s definitely a lot of rebel flags, but they seem to be more about aesthetics than racism. I once saw a man in a diner with a rebel flag shirt reading “born of rebel blood,” but with a Black wife and a mixed-face family.
I will say this, if you’re not Black or White, your social circle will be kind of limited. Sadly this region lacks the cosmopolitanism and large diaspora communities we see on the West Coast. You also see fewer mixed-race couples compared to northern and western cities.

@PranavInDecay Bali has great Indian restaurants. Ubud has a lot of vegetarian and even vegan places. There's great Italian fare too. Vegetarian was not a problem at all.
