@Random36800

Temere sum. I like Rome, 40k, stoicism, and stoic, faceless, but ever determined, badassery that rages against the dying of the light.

@S0meRandomGuy01 @ArmaJacked @nonregemesse is demoralizing your foe and getting their men to switch sides not part of war and a generals perview? And is it not also the duty of a general to work to prevent this? Your statement just further proves Scipio the superior

@Adityapandeydev love the copium responses. Its all God fearing and God in your hearts and minds, until it becomes inconvenient. Also the assumption that Christianity is the only provider of "morals"

A religious man gives money to the poor believing God will return it to him. An atheist gives money to the poor expecting nothing. Now tell me... who is closer to God?

@PFalcon451 @Dorktanian @seamus_coughlin Its nice to see I'm not the only one who deals with this. Christians tend to make it difficult to have religious or philosophical conversations. Pagans, Gnostics, Atheists, agnostics, they are all far better conversationalists. Of course, not all christians.

@Dorktanian @seamus_coughlin No! It's not a bad faith response. I'm genuinely asking the question because I want to know if anyone can answer it. I'm not attacking you, or anyone else. Why can't you just answer the question?

@seamus_coughlin From my experience, tbh, 90% of christians do what they do with God on their mind. They happily state this too, and say that those who don't don't have god on their mind. Its only when questioned that your defense suddenly appears

@peteynincmpoop @TomaszKira @mcgillmd921 Edward Gibbons was among the first to use "CE" and "BCE", though he didn't use it for "common era" or "before common era" He used it for "Christian Era" and "Before the Christian Era"

@TomaszKira @mcgillmd921 You're wrong and also it's AD not CE. CE is a meaningless replacement that still revolves around the birth of Christ. "Common Era" is a senseless and absurd phrase.

“The reign of Aurelian lasted only for years and nine months; but every instant of that short period was filled by some memorable achievement. He put an end to the Gothic War, recovered Gaul, Spain, and Britain out of the hands of Tetricus, and destroyed the proud monarchy which Zenobia had erected in the East.” ~ Edward Gibbon, History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire

@UpdatingOnRome @AtelierMissor_ the second I saw "Akhenaten" I knew this list would suck. Sure enough, no Romans, despite our civilization being descendant from rome, and despite Augustus being "one of the most effective leaders in human history"

@InToTheWannaB @nonregemesse @UpdatingOnRome You should see what punishments Aurelian gave to corrupted Politicians. Also dude served in the military starting as a grunt and made his way up to the top by skill alone.

@nonregemesse @UpdatingOnRome Both great generals but Richard the lionheart was a bad ass mother on a personal level that didn’t mind getting his hands dirty. That counts for something in my book.

@Hecate69808481 @jerkus110 Its funny to me because Frierens more mature character writing and reactions is what attarcted me to it. It felt more real. Meanwhile I hear raving over Demonslayer, but the over the top reactions and behaviors make it so difficult to get through by comparison.

@jerkus110 just say you are only used to anime where the characters often react strongly, maybe even overreact, or just have no comprehension of what you see on screen because in frieren they do react to things, they literally animated this so well it's genuinely hard to miss emotions

I think this was the last straw for me with Frieren as a series. Land's complete no-sell to having the world's most powerful mage catch him dead to rights is just "I'm surprised 😑". This really drove home that every character is just gonna be Like That for the whole thing

ppl hating on him but he's 1000% right. the issue with Frieren isn't that it's slow and chill, it's that its characters are super one-note and just not very interesting. they're all ultra-stoic archetypes that don't really have any interesting traits or meaningful inner conflicts

@jerkus110 TBH, I prefer this more subtle character writing over Demon Slayers "OH MY GOD DID YOU JUST DO THAT THING WE ALL SAW YOU DO, OH MY GOD HOW COULD YOU, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, AAAAAAAAAHHHHH" direction. Honestly, Frierens characters are lot more mature and real feeling.

@annoytuw @UpdatingOnRome True, the more history you read, the harder and harder it becomes to ignore which figures create positive lasting legacies, what their morals were, and which figures create negative destructive legacies, and what their morals were.

@offline_jayyy @jasoho1 @CarlHigbie did you not hear the "Drive drive drive drive!" and the gas being hit. All of that immediately after being lawfully ordered to leave the vehical. Sure her mind may have been on leaving, but the dude was in front of the car and he would have died if he didn't fire.

@romanhelmetguy That, or they are severely misguided in how exactly to build a legacy. Perhaps they hope to be remembered, just remembered as terrible people who squandered their lives and were hated by all for building such a shit world.

@romanhelmetguy Part of it may be a change in the way we think of our lives. Historically, your legacy was the most important thing. If you died and no one remembered you, then it was as if you never lived at all. Now, ambition, pride, and pursuit of legacy are often looked down upon fsr.

@AstorAaron @christopherrufo The country has been on a downward trajectory since 2000. It has been hollowed out and lost its industrial base. Life in general gets harder and things are tighter. What is there to feel good about for an independent?

@vintagemapstore @PatrickKAbbott Looking at this deeper, it gets more cursed for Europe following the logic of "marginalized native groups": Basque and Celts aren't shown for example.

@vintagemapstore @PatrickKAbbott Also I just checked, this map is failing to account for the Boers of South Africa, an ethnic group still marginalized into the current day.
