Finally, scroll through this Twitter account's history for a lot of good stuff. I posted a lot of really useful factoids and stats over the years, and I still find myself referring to it sometimes.

OSR was funded by @fairvote, where I previously worked for eight years. In many ways, OSR is an aggregation of all the stuff I learned and created while there.

"reforms that make voting easier are an important piece to the low turnout puzzle, but they’re not sufficient to drive participation. People also need to want to vote in the first place."
Democracy Docket@DemocracyDocket

NEW: Our current electoral system creates an environment for political apathy to fester, but upgrading it with proportional representation can put us on a better path for all voters to finally feel connected to their government, @hill_charlotte argues. democracydocket.com/opinion/lets-s…

No matter how you slice it, winner-take-all prevents democratic outcomes. Let's advocate for electoral reforms like rank choice voting to ensure equitable representation that goes beyond tokenism.

I share Rob's optimism, in no small part thanks to his tireless efforts to push the ball forward on critical democracy reforms through times when everyone else said they were impossible.
FairVote@fairvote

After 31 years leading FairVote’s remarkable impact, @Rob_Richie will step down as President/CEO on Nov 1 and take on a full-time Sr Advisor role. Rob: “I’m profoundly optimistic about what we can achieve together to seek a more perfect union.” 👇 fairvote.org/rob-richie-mov…

@UncapTheHouse Counterpoint: lots more states should have only one /district/. But each district should elect multiple members proportionally.

Alaska should have more than one district. Delaware should have more than one district. North Dakota should have more than one district. South Dakota should have more than one district. Vermont should have more than one district. Wyoming should have more than one district.

@UncapTheHouse I was curious, and so in case others are: To get to all states having 2+ seats, you'd need 811 total seats. To get to all states having 3+ seats, you'd need 1,405. Both figures use 2020 census totals and assume we still use the Method of Equal Proportions for apportionment.

If you'll forgive me for sticking my oar in, I'd say you need to place your faith in yourself. The question is whether we can all organize to make the democracy we want. There are always those who resist change. The only way to overcome it is through organization.

Voters do not like it when they pass things directly and then politicians try to undermine them.

Some councilmembers in Portland have been trying to mess with the charter reform that passed last year. Portland voters will not stand for it.
Rob Richie@Rob_Richie

Great organizing today by @charter_reform to uphold will of voters in Portland (OR). This article shows that the city councilors proposing to rush to the ballot measures without almost any community dialogue is a lot less likely after today's hearing. wweek.com/news/city/2023…
