Funny, that's why I'm considered to be among the most knowledgeable in the world on history, because I actually know different people and eras and the actual history. You'll notice that every historian who has come in has talked about how big all of the top tier guys (of which Hogan is one) are. If you read history or talked to people who were alive you'd realize the business didn't start in 1984 and the U.S. is not the world. A smart person who reads would study Rikidozan, Gotch, Londos, Santo and Inoki rather than got mad a bunch of historians bring them up.

Finished this up last night. I enjoyed it. I was not a 'Hulkamaniac' but there's no denying this: he was the most important and biggest pro wrestler, ever. Without him, the business does not expand the way it did in the 80's. Like the rest of us, he had his flaws, but at the same time he impacted (positively) a multitude of people..

Frank Gotch and Rikidozan far more important Literally created the sport and dominated it, Gotch for both pro and amateur and being one of the biggest sports stars of his era. You could argue Rikidozan ahead but they are top two. Three through six would be Santo, Hogan, Inoki and Londos and you could debate any of those placings. Steve Johnson, who has researched Londos more than anyone, told me he was definitely bigger than anyone since. I did Inoki and Hogan bios in recent years upon their passing and when done it was clear Inoki was the more influential. Next tier is your Bruno, Baba, Demon level tier.

Please practice what you preach then. All you have to do is tell anyone on your podcast to not say anything that could possibly hurt someone's feelings, even in a comparison that hurt NOBODY's feelings in reality. If you do so going forward, congratulations. If you don't, then you exposed who you are. I didn’t imagine this would blow up the way it did today. I appreciate Dave’s decades and decades of work serving fans like me with news, information, and opinions. I just wish he would realize the weight his voice carries in the space and be more measured with his criticism that could hurt young folks opportunities. Dave was my invited guest at Starrcast, watched ALL IN in my box, and we had breakfast together in Japan before Wrestle Kingdom. I enjoy his company. We have been friendly for 10 years. I do believe he comes from a good place and is never intentionally dishonest. I know Bruce and Eric disagree with me on that. Has he gotten some things wrong over the years? Sure, we all have. But his intent, imo, has always been good. His blind spot is not recognizing that his opinion gets repeated and shared as fact to a large portion of the community. It’s a big responsibility. I shared these thoughts privately with Dave and then publicly over the last 24 hours. But my intent is not to hurt Dave in any way. I just want him to reconsider his approach. Love to have a discussion publicly, privately, whatever. There is no “debate” to speak of imo. We like the same type of wrestling; we just approach our critiques differently. He’s been doing it his way for 40 years. It’s not likely to change.

This is so stupid. Name me 20% of the NXT matches in 2026 ranked higher by any source that does such a thing. If not, saying it was better than 80% of the NXT bouts this year (which would be very conservative as someone who actually saw that match and watches every NXT TV show) is very fair to say. It's not trashing anyone, it is complimenting everyone. If I said Tanahashi vs. Okada was better than any 2026 match, that's not trashing WWE, NXT, AEW, CMLL, AAA or anyone else.
