Discussions within the PNC on replacing Muizzu as the party’s 2028 presidential candidate have begun. Muizzu is calling, messaging, and pressuring PPM leaders while accusing them of conspiring to field another candidate for 2028. He sidelined strong potential rivals, Ghassan, Zameer, and Adam. Though Zameer has already started his campaign for PNC’s VP position, Muizzu will not give that position to Zameer. The next targets are Shiyam and Adhurey. They will be sidelined. Rushed congress is to make PPM’s influential figures and leadership irrelevant. Muizzu should understand one thing: he may intimidate PPM leaders, reshuffle positions, and consolidate power, but he cannot stop the movement seeking to replace him. The talk of alternative candidate for 2028 has already taken started within the PNC, fear or intimidation cannot stop it.

It is saddening that the @WHO intervened to push the Maldives to lower duties on cigarettes. The Maldivian government had made a deliberate decision to increase tobacco duties and publicly celebrated the measure as a step toward improving public health. It had also made clear its intention to maintain that policy. However, as per Gov, WHO has compelled us to lower import duties. Why was the Maldives pressured to reduce those duties? Who exactly asked for this? Who benefits when cigarettes become cheaper? And why is an international health organization involved in pushing a country in the opposite direction of what many consider a proven tobacco-control measure? @WHO @DrTedros @UN @antonioguterres People all over the world deserve answers. @TobaccoFreeKids @VitalStrat @Reuters @AP
