I've been going through the World Happiness report and noticed dramatic growth in volunteering in the last decade in China.
In 2015, less than 5% of Chinese did any volunteer work. In just a decade it's gone through the roof and now Mainland Chinese seems to be volunteering more than any other majority-Chinese areas with almost 40 percent doing some volunteering in 2025.
I'm actually surprised that the number is not higher for Taiwan. I see a lot of volunteers here, especially older people. They are especially visible around hospitals helping people get to where they are supposed to go.
What does volunteering look like in China?

Yes, you are right China’s regional influence is made up of the above mentioned factors. Point is that Iran-Saudi deal was an attempt to translate this influence into political capital, followed by similar attempts in Pakistan and Israel/Palestine. All to no avail, while the US - for better or worse - got things moving due to its assets in the region
