We’re missing a major point here: how exactly will France help end the ongoing war against Europe being fought in Ukraine? Isn’t it time for the coalition of the willing to take much bolder action?
Joan Larroumec@larroumecj

In case anybody missed it, France is actively preparing for a post Pax Americana world. In the last 6 months: ∙ Aircraft carrier “France Libre”: 80,000-ton nuclear carrier, largest warship ever built in Europe announced, €10-12 billion ∙ Nuclear arsenal expansion: first warhead increase in 30+ years, stockpile size now classified, forward-basing on allied territory authorized ∙ European nuclear umbrella: “forward deterrence” doctrine with 8 partners (Germany, UK, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Sweden, Denmark) ∙ UK-France nuclear pact: joint strategy consultations, joint submarine patrols, joint R&D since July 2025 ∙ 140 Rafale sold to India: 26 Rafale Marine ($7.5B, April 2025) + 114 Rafale for air force ($39B, cleared January 2026), largest Indian arms deal ever ∙ World’s 2nd largest arms exporter: 9.8% global share (SIPRI, March 2026), up 21%, replacing Russia ∙ Gold repatriation: 129 tonnes sold at the NY Fed, repurchased in Paris, entire 2,437-tonne reserve now in France, €12.8B profit ∙ €36B defense spending increase: budget to reach €64B by 2027, two years ahead of schedule ∙ Strait of Hormuz: leading EU escort mission, 19 of 23 major warships deployed to Mediterranean/Gulf. On April 3, a French-owned CMA CGM vessel became the first Western European ship to transit the strait since Iran closed it ∙ New SSBN “L’Invincible”: next-generation nuclear ballistic missile submarine announced ∙ JEWEL program: sovereign European space-based missile early warning system ∙ ELSA initiative: Franco-British-German long-range conventional strike missile program ∙ SAMP/T NG air defense: next-gen surface-to-air system, Denmark and Ukraine already buyers ∙ 14 EPR2 nuclear reactors planned: largest nuclear construction program in Western Europe ∙ Africa strategy reset: new Africa-France Summit in Nairobi, post-withdrawal from Sahel ∙ 2025 National Strategic Review: new strategic objective on scientific and technological sovereignty (AI, quantum, nuclear propulsion) Ready to lead Europe into a path of independence. Vive la France, vive l’Europe

@mhmck Is that why he kicked the negligent European NATO members in the ass over their lack of spending? Yeah increasing the effectiveness of NATO really helped Russia...

@UnRecondYankee @steven_pifer I don't think Poland is going to align with anyone other than the US. They take their security more seriously than any other European nation. And they do not support the European Union position on immigration Europe and China need oil

#NATO's purpose is to deter attack on and, if necessary, defend allies in North Atlantic region. It is not to support war of choice launched by NATO member. Senator Rubio understood value of NATO. Secretary Rubio apparently does not.
Republicans against Trump@RpsAgainstTrump

Rubio: “If NATO is just about us defending Europe if they’re attacked but then denying us basing rights when we need them, that’s not a very good arrangement.  That’s a hard one to stay engaged in and say this is good for the United States…All of it’s going to have to be reexamined”

@SlaterAdri59064 @LouisGODRON @steven_pifer Like US is not worried about the price of oil..?🤪🤣 When an acceptable deal is on the table, but US chooses to start a war anyway, because Netanyahu wants to.. & then get surprised by what every competent person on Iran knew upfront. Then Trump have proved he is just incompetent!

@UnRecondYankee @steven_pifer I think you will see Europe fracture before some of the members align with China. Others are headed down the path of socialism anyway

@CanadianCoffey I suppose Canada could send its entire military to defend Europe knowing that they will still be protected by America. I for one want no part of increased integration with the European Union

@LouisGODRON @steven_pifer If NATO countries cannot see that degrading the Iranian threat was critical to their own National security then I don't see any hope for a reconciliation between America and Europe They are more worried about the price of oil than security

@SlaterAdri59064 @steven_pifer I understand the question; note however that when Korea was attacked, when the US was attacked, when Kuwait was attacked, the NATO allies went beyond the NATO mandate. But these were not wars of choice.

Very Brexit Problems@VeryBrexitProbs·
For starters, close every single American base on its soil. Ramstein. Lakenheath. Aviano. Rota. Incirlik. No resupply. No refuelling. No logistics. No intelligence sharing. Good luck with your idiotic billion dollar a day war then.
Chay Bowes@BowesChay

As US military Aircraft are forced to "fly around" European airspace to Iran- What would those European countries (and NATO Allies") do exactly, if the Americans just flew over them anyway? Think about it.

@Frid45 So instead of waiting for the US to withdraw their military from Europe why don't you evict them immediately?

@NotisAlarik Maybe they think that Europeans should put their bodies between Russia and their population and only call on American support through NATO in the event they are actually invaded

It comes down to these guys wanting guns to shoot people. And that’s not how we roll in Canada

Gun Ownership Is NOT a Hobby! Most people see it as a hobby. I never have and neither does @CCFR_CCDAF @TWilsonOttawa This is about having the tools to survive and protect your family if things go sideways. Watch the full interview with Tracey right here 👇

@TheToolGuy4 Perfect example of why Western provinces need to leave Canada they will never be represented fairly. Floor crossers are traitors to their constituents and should be publicly shamed at every opportunity

@MrJoKeR604 And in that year the Liberals have bribed opposition members to cross the floor . That completely undermines the Democratic process in Canada and supports the underlying need for provincial separation

@Ben_oharabyrne The US doesn't need to provide a deterrence force in Europe all they need to do is respond to an attack on a member state

@NLwartracker Well seeing as NATO will not allow the US to use their bases for anything other than the defense of Europe now I don't think it really makes much of a difference It's definitely better for the economy without that much foreign troop deployment
