Starbase GigaBay Month Five This month saw work begin on the next level of the GigaBay, it is interesting to see the difference between the lower levels that have been fully outfitted, and the newer levels. @NASASpaceflight | nsf.live/starbase

The next chapter of America’s journey to explore the solar system begins TONIGHT. Artemis II and the SLS rocket roll out of the Vehicle Assembly Building to Launch Complex 39B as we target a launch attempt as early as April 1. This mission will potentially send astronauts farther into space than any human has traveled before - around the Moon and safely back home. And, under @POTUS’ National Space Policy Directive, we’re just getting started.

A couple of things I played around with, mainly trying out a white background, making it more print friendly and striping away some of the technical data, don’t worry, a data heavy version will still be available, especially post-launch where I will include all the mission stats. Also I will still produce updates with a dark background. What do you prefer?

Artemis II will send humans on a journey around the moon for the first time in more than 50 years. It’s part of NASA’s detailed launch program to return humans to the lunar surface. Here’s your (unofficial) step-by-step infographic guide to the mission, with a launch date of no earlier than April 1, 2026. I have also included a variant with a white background.

For Saint Patrick’s Day, one of my favorite rocket launch photos… Black Rock Desert, NV The green glow comes from barium chloride mixed into the AP propellant. I planned the camera location in advance to bisect the moonrise, and then my rocket did something very unusual.

The world’s largest launch events are in the Black Rock Desert after Burning Man. I have gone with my kids every year for 20 years. These 2 are: 1) My photos from BALLS, for launches that are illegal in California: flickr.com/photos/jurvets… 2) One of mine: youtu.be/MkmK7giUej0?si…

On March 18, 1965, at 10 a.m. Moscow time, commander Pavel Belyaev and co-pilot Alexei Leonov launched on Voskhod-2 into orbit. During Leonov's world's first "spacewalk", Belyaev transmitted: "Attention! Man has gone into outer space!" «Внимание! Человек вышел в космическое пространство!»

Our propulsion team is making great progress. The 20kN Kinecore-4 and its 50N RCS thrusters have completed boundary performance qualification tests. The combo will be used in the upcoming Kinastra (Lixun,力巡) kick stage, enabling Kinetica-2 with GTO and other high-orbit missions.

Rocket Lab $RKLB Neutron Progress. Second Stage separation systems testing moving ahead at Rocket Lab Warkworth New Zealand facility. The rocket section on the stand and the stage 2 beside it look like to me like they are primarily for testing the separation mechanisms rather than for flight but they may also be multi use.
