@nx422 @NoThirdMan Not so. They adopted a game that already existed and then adapted it to suit their own needs - ie gambling. One of the game’s greatest historical fallacies is the aristocracy getting the credit for ‘creating’ cricket.

@NoThirdMan Cricket came from the upper classes, the elite levels have largely remained out if reachi of the masses, that's why it is a minority sport in comparison. There are too many factors against it ever being anything else.

Is it true that in any men's professional cricket match in England & Wales, on average, around 10 of the 22 players will have come from approx 0.5% of the general population, ie. from families who paid for their child to go to a top 100 cricketing independent school?

Massive bombshell. Trump whines on camera that Australia refused to help with his Iran war, only for the Australian Prime Minister to reveal on live TV that Washington didn't even consult them before launching the attack. The US has gone completely rogue.

@StoneDunk @Alex_Niven I like the first album well enough and they had their moments later on but def a literal and figurative backwards step overall. Covered quite well in this book (and documentary):

Always kind of thought the Libertines were the Oasis of the 00s: a band older music heads thought were embarrassing, but if you were the right age you got it. Maybe that’s true, but hard to see that the actual music (bar one or two so-so party tunes) will have any sort of legacy

@joel_ca_c @Alex_Niven Saw them at the height of the ‘hype’ (NME has much to answer for) in 2002. The support act (the wonderful Stereo Total) wiped the floor with them. I was sorely tempted to walk out on TS and their Oasis-like ‘couldn’t care less’ performance. Not for me. 😬

@Alex_Niven Their music and legacy suffers from the same problem encountered by The Strokes, which is the Simon Reynolds "Retromania" thesis - you can only "go back to basics" so many times before it just becomes cannibalistic regurgitation (mixed metaphors ahoy).

EXPOSED: The Channel 4 Dispatches and The Sunday Times investigation has finally stripped away the mask of Prince William’s £1 billion Duchy of Cornwall. Whilst he lectures the nation on his "Earthshot" programme, nearly 1 in 7 of his rental properties are in illegal breach of energy standards (EPC F & G). He isn’t a steward of the land; he is a tax-exempt landlord letting families freeze in "unfit" homes whilst pocketing a £23 million private income. The most galling part? He is shamelessly profiting from the taxpayer by charging the NHS for ambulance depots and billing the Ministry of Defence millions for the Army to train on "his" soil. As one distraught tenant farmer put it: "It’s just a business to them now... the heart has gone out of it." He isn’t a "Prince of the People", he is a billionaire extracting rent from our hospitals and schools. #RoyalFleece #DuchyExposed #AbolishTheMonarchy #PrinceWilliam #Dispatches #SundayTimes

@dgriffinpix Yet too many (invariably with a vested interest in the game) still deny the truth in this quote - while, at the same time, citing James as cricket’s greatest sage.

NOEL GALLAGHER SLAMS GLASTONBURY AS 'WOKE' AND 'VIRTUE SIGNALING': “It’s getting a bit woke now, that place, and a bit kind of preachy and a bit virtue-signalling. I don’t like it in music – little fucking idiots waving flags around and making political statements and bands taking the stage and saying, ‘Hey guys, isn’t war terrible, yeah? Let’s all boo war. Fuck the Tories man,’ and all that. It’s like, look – play your fucking tunes and get off.”

BrewDog had more than £550 million in debts when the firm was handed over to administrators. Founders James Watt and Martin Dickie have approximately £550 million between them. The solution is simple.

Considering how unreliable the US has become under the actual dictator Trump, this is the only reasonable action: Move valuables out of the US while you still can.

The Banque de France has replaced its gold held in New York with newly standardised bars and moved them to Paris. The operation (2025–2026) generated 12.8bn € in gains, driven by rising gold prices. Now, all of France’s gold is held on its own soil. 🇫🇷

Sorry @SkyNews but this is a really dubious bit of reporting. You focus on one of the more controversial independent politicians - who you then quietly admit isn't even standing. Left wing independents are constantly portrayed as sinister and divisive - although you don't speak to any apart from Yakoob. And then you round it off with a picture of a woman in a burkha as you intone Birmingham's "problems are more visible than other areas." You sense that for @SamCoatesSky "broken" means no longer safely in the grip of mainstream parties.
Sam Coates Sky@SamCoatesSky

This is a brilliant - bleak - piece about the broken local politics of Birmingham. First class on the ground reporting by @alexrogerssky @JoshGafson1 These pieces aren’t easy - you only get footage like this with skill, graft and luck - please watch:
