Being released from the county game is tough. The months afterwards - working out who you are and what comes next, losing your identity, accepting your fate - are often tougher. A piece following some of the players currently navigating those challenges: thecricketer.com/Topics/premium…

@NickFriend1 @glurcher Does the PCA do enough to help players transition out of pro cricket? Should the system encourage players hollistically to have an identity beyond just being a (disposable) cricketer?

@GeorgeDobell1 6 of the 7 players are independently educated. I wonder if to get to the overall % of 52% indy amongst all male professional players, a higher % join as Rookies and then leave the game at a higher rate than state schooled players?

Finland is the Happiest country in the World for the 9th year running. We also climbed up the world brand index from 7th to 5th. I am often asked why we do well in these rankings. I do not think there is a magic potion, but it helps to have a society which strives towards freedom, equality and justice. The basis of it all is a welfare society, a robust education system, a sense of security and a close attachment to nature. There is no such thing as a perfectly happy society, but providing some building blocks that give us a chance to live a meaningful life, to help others, will nudge us in the right direction during the journey of life.

@Final_Word_Pod @collinsadam @GlamCricket @AsaTribe I remember when Rob Yates & then Tom Haines were the next big thing at the top of the order for England. Asa Tribe may well be a successful England player, as the other two may still do, but its probably good practice to always maintain perspective around 'talent id'. 👍

@SomersetCCC Please can I also ask, are there other 'designated Centres of Cricketing Excellence' (as mentioned in the linked article) across Somerset, Devon & Cornwall? Many thanks.

@mattwang22 Thanks Matt. Cricket also has some (very few) state school success stories too... Canterbury Academy, Aldridge Admy in Brighton. More state school hubs imo should be an area for ECB investment in order to realistically compete with the top indy schools. ecb.co.uk/news/4249007/c…

@dafrankland 10% of a typical 50K/yr fee is still a significant burden and therefore a barrier. I don't think there are any published figures around skillset or ethnicity on scholarships. It would be useful.

@NoThirdMan There's a few things about scholarships. A lot of them aren't 100%. Parents being able to afford even 10% of a school's bills is rare. The 100% ones tend to be for players already nailed on for a county contract. They predominantly seem to go to batters, and White players.

#TFTD When English cricket players are 'sponsored' by a business is it OK if that business is owned by a player's family member???
