Canadians are just not having babies anymore at the levels needed to sustain our population. That means population growth increasingly depends on immigration. But this raises an important question about what is a sustainable long-term solution? Is it: 1. Continuing to rely primarily on immigration to sustain population growth? 2. Addressing the economic and social pressures that make it difficult for young Canadians to start families? 3. Or some combination of both? This is a conversation worth having openly.
