As it sounds in Jeremiah: 'Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, that they will no longer say, As the LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; but, As the LORD lives who brought up the seed of the house of Israel and brought them from the land of the north and from all the countries where I had driven them; they will dwell in their own land' (23:7-8).   God is inextricably linked to Israel and the Jewish people. That will always be the case and that irritates many people. Some may be jealous of the Jewish people, find it unfair or have hatred for God and take it out on Israel. At its core, anti-Semitism is hatred for the God of Israel. The Jewish people remind the world that they will one day be accountable to the God of Israel.   Important role Throughout the Bible you see that Satan is out to destroy Israel. His first goal was to prevent the Lord Jesus from being born and giving His life to atone for sins. Satan easily finds willing individuals worldwide and sometimes also nations and leaders of nations who want to hate, attack or even destroy the people of Israel. That is his goal. He knows the Bible. He knows that God has chosen Israel to play an important role in God's plan of salvation with this world. He will do everything he can to prevent that, but he will never succeed.   Corrie ten Boom once said: “You cannot love God without loving the Jewish people.” That certainly does not mean that we should approve of everything Israel does. God does not approve of that either. So much happens in Israel that the Bible says is sin. Israel too must hear the Gospel and must be called to convert to the God of Israel, to the Messiah, the Lord Jesus, Yeshua.   Divine Intervention There have been several moments in history when the people of Israel almost perished. But at those moments God intervened again and again. Think of the time of the exile, the destruction of Jerusalem, the Holocaust and the wars for Israel from 1948 onwards. Each time it was a miracle that Israel continued to exist. Satan will never succeed in destroying the Jewish people and Israel forever. Zechariah 14 even says that the Lord will fight for His people, which does not mean that the Jewish people will no longer suffer. What is clear is that Israel and the Jewish people have a central place in God's future plan for this world. And that is the Israel where it is now. The Bible very precisely indicates the borders, from the Nile to the Euphrates (Genesis 15:18). The time will come when this entire area will belong to Israel.   Sometimes the Bible lifts a corner of the veil that hangs over the battle between the spiritual powers. In thinking about this, I came across Psalm 83. It speaks of the enemies who plot cunning attacks against the people of Israel. "Let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more ," says verse 5. The prayer that follows ends with the words: "Cover their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD" (verse 17). And the psalmist concludes with: "That they may know that Your name alone is, LORD, the Most High over all the earth."   Let us beg the Lord to glorify His name even now, through the struggle and anti-Semitism. And let us not be ashamed, especially now, to stand up for Israel and for the God of Israel. And I also pray that all of Israel will realize that only the Lord can save them.
