@kaddzy It's an investment, I think people don't think about it, but effectively, there are no taxes in Syria or ability to collect such a thing anyway, it's ALL just goverment fees and customs collection at the border. I think something like 60% of the entire state budget is customs tax

@kaddzy This is why you're seeing massive upgrades of the border infrastructure; they've also been focusing on things like trucks passing through Syria and even consolidating the market by forcing back-to-back rules with Jordan. It's all chasing fees

I do appreciate the upgrade. I hope this was a grant given for this particular project and not money coming out of the state treasury which could have been used for a myriad of pressing issues.

Before (2022) & After (Today). #Syria has revamped the customs & inspection site at its Nassib Crossing with #Jordan. The civilian passenger section has also been expanded & can now process x5 times the amount it could in 2024.

@Miyhnea Under Cold War definitions, Syria would not have gotten away with calling itself free market or liberal

@Miyhnea With capitalism victorious, every new experiment is now simply defined as some sort of variant of capitalism. Take Syria, they talk free market liberalism, but basically 100% of all new projects have been state-led or 5050 investor+government, with some BOT sprinkled in

Thinking a bit how economic radicalism has kinda died in the world. Nobody does socialist utopism anymore If you organize a successful mass popular revolution today you'll most likely go to Davos to be crowned by Tony Blair like something out of the most insane conspiracies

@andymikhailovic Honestly, it's a bad example, not just because of my point, but because you may be unaware but zios hate Armenians almost as much as they hate Palestinians, so they'd unironically respond, "yes they foreigners take their homes and give them to us."

@SyrianLib I am not doing that. I am only using an example to show the ridiculousness of his argument when he speaks of “European Jews” when Armenians have also lived in Europe for millennia and migrated back and forth.

@Dmg_Cntrl Very similar to how Armenia and Kazakhstan are primary suppliers of important imports to Russia.

@Dmg_Cntrl Greece is a middleman economy, their role is probably more logistics as opposed to those Israeli importing being Greek products.

@Miyhnea @dyingtriycle You can't demand it back, the legitimacy of any Syrian goverment will melt to earth core if they gave it up, and any instability or economic downturn will probably see it being evoked again as a rallying cry.

We talk of the IDF dominance but a key to it few mention is that there is nobody left on earth, even they were politically willing, to rebuild the lost armies and equipment in a short timeframe of a few years
Mihnea/𒈪𒄴𒉈𒀀@Miyhnea

@ThomasPierret @TitusMichaeleus A time being is measured in decades at best. You need a proper real army, the state in Syria just ended conscription. Equipment that costs money you don't have in an int environment were nobody can give you the mass quantities in short periods that USSR had to rebuild the SAA

@Miyhnea Maybe I get the impression that Israel wants Turkey to take over as their object of obsession after Iran is gone. They're unhinged lunatics. There is probably a camp in Israel which would lobby for taking the fight to Turkey rather than trying to fight in a proxy way in Syria.

@Miyhnea In fact, we already have this reality tested, Turkey DID try to set up a base in Syria and even got the US to agree under the pretext of it being an anti-ISIS post, just for Israel to say "lol know" and bombed to dust to prevent the Turks from moving in!

@dyingtriycle @Miyhnea No, they'd have 2 million Syrians to go through, but areas such as Golan and Hermon are probably gonna be a multi generational fight to take back.

@SyrianLib @Miyhnea Is there now a real possibility of southern Syria and Lebanon getting annexed by Israel?

@Miyhnea In case of an Israeli attack on Turkey? No, I don't think so, we're not talking about Turks dying in Syria, I mean proper Israeli hostility against Turkey directly
