My takeaway from this is that we are much closer to a civil war than I previously anticipated

Another data point. A black youth assaults an older white man who can’t fight back. Preying on the weak for the sake of it. Racial resentment, very likely. Real cultures teach young men to leave the elderly and defenseless alone, or better yet, protect them. This one appears to celebrate or at least tolerate the opposite. He’s picking targets who can’t retaliate. The result is exactly what you’d expect with more brazen attacks on people who pose zero threat, because the only rule that seems to matter is “don’t get caught by your own.” Everyone else pays the price in the form of constant low-level fear, people avoiding public spaces, and the normalization of cowardice dressed up as power. The normal reaction is basic revulsion at behavior that has no place in any functional society.
