@MBrant75 No, but few need "instant". Many with cars don't have on demand. My girlfriend's car is a 10 floor elevator wait and ride + 400m drive just to get out of her parking. I live less than 400m from multiple bus stops & just a bit more from the subway. Apps let me walk out w/o wait.

@Toronto_Chad Well what do you get in Toronto, door to door instant on-demand service? Because that’s what my car does.

If you're not a transit manager, it sounds so easy to fix the problem of crime and bad behavior on public transit. Even worse, it's easy to accuse transit managers of not caring if they don't solve it. That's not fair. They do care. 1/🧵
Chris Arnade 🐢🐱🚌@Chris_arnade

Every transit nerd — the urbanist who tell us over and over how much they love public transportation— has to realize until you stop this sort of crap, and make stopping it your number one goal, you and all your train love are doing nothing but annoying everyone else.

@Ruff681368 @MBrant75 I use public transit for about 1/3 of my groceries, on foot about 1/3 and by my girlfriend's car 1/3 (I rarely have any significant grocery purchase delived). Haven't found any real issue with transit or foot. Of course I am a household of one.

@Toronto_Chad @MBrant75 When I was visiting a city with better transit it was still preferable to drive to the grocery store since a car can carry groceries better than a public transit.

@Toronto_Chad @humantransit AI flags security who could presumably figure it out from there. Ideally it would be the people asking for money or screaming but if they got the people sleeping on the subway it wouldn’t be the worst thing either

@REMARKSIST @pasta_nachos In between the subway and the 8 minute walk to my place I have a grocery store, book store, liquor store, two 24 hour pharmacies, a public library branch, more restaurants than most small towns and much more.

@pasta_nachos I have been asked if it's annoying to "have to go grocery shopping so often". I live the same distance away from a grocery store as the back of a Costco parking lot is from the Costco

@macroorganism42 @pasta_nachos Stuck in traffic, fored to pay insurance, finding gas stations, car maintenance. How is any of that convenient? Sure, most transit could be a lot better. Frequency is freedom.

@pasta_nachos Ain’t nothing about a car is an inconvenience. Quite the opposite. It’s freedom. Freedom from a train or bus schedule that may or may not be covered in human feces. Freedom from being corralled like cattle from place to place. Complete autonomous control. I feel sorry for you

suburbanites will drive 22 minutes to sit inside a chili's that's surrounded by nine acres of parking lot and then call my neighborhood "inconvenient" because the meter costs a dollar seventy five. the lack of self-awareness is almost performance art at this point

@PrabSarkaria Why do politicians not understand the difference between an investment and spending? You are spending $1.3B taxpayer cash. If GO and UP are such great businesses, why aren't they using profits to pay?

Today, I announced that our government is investing $1.3 billion to extend Alstom’s contract to operate and maintain GO Transit and UP Express service through 2031, helping keep more than 1,100 Ontario workers on the job across the GTHA and supporting safe, reliable service for more than 120,000 daily riders. As GO Expansion moves forward, we’re protecting Ontario by making sure Ontario tax dollars continue to support Ontario workers and Ontario jobs.

@Tarnational @patwalz @jbarro You forgot to include the costs of treatment for the various diseases you get from the mosquitoes the birds would have eaten and the taxes you'll pay to support re-forestation, etc.

@patwalz @jbarro I could spent 1.7M additional to clad a building in bird proof glass, or I could pay someone a few dollars to pick up the occasional dead bird.

These bird glass mandates are such bullshit. We *eat* birds. But we're supposed to spend thousands of dollars an apartment to stop them from flying into windows?
@3_under_scores_

@EleanaLittle One argument that this bill wouldn't raise costs was that builders could switch from glass curtain wall to masonry and brushed metal. But the nonprofit developer estimated costs of about $3000 per apartment for this not-very-glassy building. Can't reduce costs by reducing glass.

@JohnPasalis How much time do they add to the commute for the people that pay for the roads? How much more co2 is burned by the extra gridlock. In bc for example, the nonsense bike lanes have choked off every road in and out of downtown

Doug Ford wants to rip out bike lanes because the 905ers don't like them But people who live in the city use them The bike sharing numbers don't lie 2020 ➡️ 2.9M rides 2025 ➡️ 7.8M rides If you make cycling safer, more people will ride bikes globalnews.ca/news/11725454/…

I just spent the last 24 hours building... a free tool for you to create your very own handwriting font quickly in the browser (no logins, all local processing). This *entire* "SaaS" is a single-page HTML app - ready for you to try: ⁨arcade.pirillo.com/fontcrafter.ht…⁩ Having tested it extensively with my own handwriting - including ligatures - I can definitely say that it works. ;) Download your own OTF, TTF, etc. when done. 100% created with @AnthropicAI Claude via web chat. Out of the 250+ free apps I've developed, this may have the most mass appeal.

The Dairy Farmers of Ontario recently met to discuss milk dumping. After being exposed for dumping millions of litres of milk at the end of 2025, you would think the focus would be on fixing the problem. Instead, according to Farmers Forum*, the meeting was largely about improving the image of dairy farmers. Unbelievable…
