This took a different turn than I expected: Korean American sister owned business @WeRubYou donates a share of profits to anti-sex trafficking org Restore NYC and hires sex workers for part time seasonal jobs to give them supplementary income.

@WeRubYou I appreciate y'all clarifying your thoughts; I just think it's worth asking what the impact is on others, when this kind of play on a slur gives permission to ppl outside the AAPI community to echo & perpetuate the stereotype, regardless of your original intentions

re: naming a Korean sauce "We Rub You" ... owners say it's about reclaiming a stereotype, but what's the line between reclaiming a stereotype or slur, and merely profiting off it, and therefore promoting it?

@elisewho We wholeheartedly agree. Assessing intent vs impact is a continuous and dynamic process for us. And we’re thankful for the space you’ve created for us to listen and to share our story. Fwiw we’re not opposed to making changes to our name!
