@XFactorTechn I’ve seen him hit down and in & up and away for HR’s. If you don’t have eye to see the qualities in his swing that’s on you I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@LA_Swiftness @XFactorTechn It’s a good swing. And there’s also a lot more to hitting than just the swing. I know that’s a tough concept for many to grasp 🤷🏻‍♂️

Murakami uses his front leg like a brake pedal. He slams it down to launch the bat forward. Notice his head? It stays perfectly still. No drifting, no jumping. He's rotating like a door on a hinge. If the head stays quiet, the eyes stay clear.

Say a 95mph pitch is released from 55ft away (typical MLB release distance) With drag, it has an avg velo of 91.07mph (133.6ft per sec). If I throw a 75mph pitch from 35ft away it has an avg velo of 72.5mph (106.3ft per sec). The "feel" may be similar, but your response has different constraints.

Putting a 75mph machine closer shrinks the reaction window. But the ball still isn’t moving through space like a real 95.
Doug Mientkiewicz@DMEASrecruiting

@Randyp79 @nextlevelbb They have always had machines that can match any velo you wanted. Move the machine up towards the hitter.

@LA_Swiftness @DMEASrecruiting How do you hit 95? How do you hit 75? You have to time them up. How do you time them up? You work on the reaction time. Where it starts in the 60'6 doesn't really matter that much.

@DMEASrecruiting @LA_Swiftness Hitting isn't a reaction so much as a prediction and response. @LA_Swiftness is right. Even if the reaction "feel" is the same, the brain isn't processing the visual information the same and a 95mph pitch covers more ground per second than a 75mph pitch.

@LA_Swiftness What machine did you own that only threw 75? What’s the difference between 90 and 95 to a hitter? The reaction time!! So yes. You can replicate it. How did we ever hit 95 mph if we only had machines that threw 75??

@forcefulhitting @TheHittingVault That depends on your bat lag and the depth of contact. For max power, ideally, you would want complete rotation. That's the point of pelvic deceleration. There's power left on the table if the turn is incomplete.

@XFactorTechn @TheHittingVault Sorry, I didn't phrase that question well. You answered my question, thanks. But, a hitter doesn't necessarily have to rotate - belt buckle to the pitcher - on every pitch. Belt buckle should face the direction of the batted ball?

Trout's back foot doesn't turn towards the pitcher. If that's natural for a hitter to do that's great! BUT there are 3 things that are a must if they don't fully rotate their foot...Check out the full post on our FB page to find out what those are!

@forcefulhitting @TheHittingVault Are you saying the hitter should block the rotation of the pelvis (hips)? I'm confused. What are you asking here? Because a hitter does NOT want to constrict their pelvis. That would cease lower body contribution and move the rotation wholly to the upper body.

@XFactorTechn @TheHittingVault I said he might have been late because of his head movement to his rear shoulder, which I believe inhibits his rotation and perhaps is the cause of his alligator arm swing. Not so much on that swing, though. What are you referring to in Ted Williams's front knee?

No, it is a direction issue. His pelves turn becomes obstructed. The "scissor" move or rear foot forward drag is a compensatory move that removes the obstacle preventing the turn of the pelvis. If you drive knee toward pitcher at launch, pelvis is blocked. Clean rotation is demonstrated in GIF

It's official! We will be the lead-off presenters on opening day at the SABR Analytics Conference. We're introducing Causal Analytics. I hope to someday soon raise hitting causality and architecture to the same level pitching has enjoyed throughout the tech boom.
