No one does anything for the love of the game anymore because social media ruined hobbies by putting them under a microscope. Cosplays and con-goers didn't used to go for IG likes or to promote their OF because there was no IG or OF to promote. People went to these events specifically for the fun time that they were going to personally have, rather than to put on a performative display for people online. No one feels safe being spontaneous or "being cringe" for a laugh because we live in a fun policing panopticon. No one wants to be on tape Doing a Sexism or Doing a Racism or Doing an Uncomfy. If smartphones had existed in the '00s, every con-goer of the time would have something cancelable on tape. People always partied and engaged in "inappropriate" behavior, but the difference was that it wasn't all on display for the entire world to see. It was a personal experience people had.
