Yeah at absolute worst, he’s a 24 year old former 1st on a 1 year deal, this is his last summer of RFA status. You can use the next 10 games to see if you want to give him 1 more year, or maybe a 2 year deal or just non tender him You already know your not brining back Sheary or Brodzinski probably

I want to say this about Conor Sheary and Jonny Brodzinski I dont think he is they are the worst players in the world or anything, they are fine 4th line esq players But if I am the front office of the New York Rangers, and I see I am in 16th place in the East, 31st in the NHL. A game away from being mathematically eliminated. Going on back to back years out of the playoffs Would I prioritize playing time for 2 guys in their 30s, who have played a ton of AHL games in recent years on expiring contracts Or would I try to find playing time for players like Edstrom, Parssinen, Berard(when healthy), Brisson, etc who are under 25 years old and are either signed for next year or are RFAs I feel like I rather get those guys as much minutes as possible, and as much tape on them as possible in NHL circumstances so when I’m building my team in the summer, I have better evaluations Brodzinski and Sheary may not even be a NHL rosters in October #NYR

@NYRLouie Understandable, but by the time he’s an RFA the cap will be much higher. You have an opportunity to truly evaluate him with an opportunity if he’s a keeper to buyout the last few years as an RFA on a cheaper deal. Something this org has no concept of.

@basstrd70 I don’t think there’s a clear correct move I would personally love to see Fortescue play NHL minutes over Mackey and Vaaks and the + side is it gives Rangers more leverage when he’s a RFA But it burns a year of his ELC, which is ultimately somethin teams try to avoid

If Drew Fortescue season ends tonight, he’ll be eligible for his ELC as soon as tomorrow He’s eligible for a 3 year ELC With Vaakanainen injury, there’s a part of me that wonders if they considering playing him NHL games Downside is it would burn a year of his ELC but if he stays in college another year, he’s only eligible for a 2 year ELC next season(but it wouldn’t likely start until 2027-2028) so either way, they’d be getting a year closer to his RFA year if they play him NHL games I do think Drew Forstescue can play NHL minutes, he’s pretty much been playing first pair minutes since his freshman year in a tough conference @StatBoy_Steven thoughts? #NYR
