@kdcreer @TimSweeneyEpic The end goal is compute freedom. If you have a computer like device - phone, pc, tablet, or console. Grab a usb stick with a game or program and plug it in. If it's built for that architecture the game or program will just work. No login or permission required from anyone else.

@jonathanshaya @Pirat_Nation This is not the point, the point is what if PSN turn off their server 10 years later? Some people still keep their original NES, you know?

PlayStation support has confirmed that a new digital rights management policy for the console is intentional, not a glitch. Starting with any digital games purchased after the March 2026 system update, your PS5 will require an internet connection at least once every 30 days to validate the license. If the console stays offline longer than that, the games simply will not launch until you reconnect. This change does not affect any titles already in your library. Setting a console as your primary system also will not bypass the monthly check-in.

Tokyo just sent a guy to prison for 18 months because his website published movie reviews and summaries that contained spoilers. He didn't even write them himself, he just ran the site. The studios decided the descriptions were too thorough and the court agreed. Every entertainment writer in Japan is now guessing where the line is. reclaimthenet.org/japan-jails-a-…

A Red Hat (IBM) engineer says he is forced to use AI and doesn't "get any choice". "It's use AI or find another job." "For the record, I love writing code, I dislike using claude, but I hate the idea of my children living in a tent more."

Singapore gamers are being locked out of games they already own unless they hand Microsoft a face scan, a passport, or their national ID. Google went further: its "age estimation" watches your YouTube habits and search history to guess how old you are. They call it child safety. The result is a biometric toll booth between you and your own library. reclaimthenet.org/singapore-xbox…

The world watched. Artemis II carried humans farther into space than we’ve ever been in over half a century and showed a new generation what exploration looks like. The journey back to the Moon is underway. Artemis III is up next.

@marcsh @ZPostFacto @davepl1968 I've used Perforce only a small amount but from what I've seen it's extremely slow at simple updates... but it could have been a server issue (on each of the 3 servers for different projects/groups I've used). I know Git w/ LFS can be a pain but I'd pick that over Perforce.

@bitpyrit3 @ZPostFacto @davepl1968 Same & also Perforce (& Ill be trying juijui) VSS was a special type of horrid. SVN was much better Perforce was (& even still is) really solid for gamedev workflows

@cybereality @nervencid @LundukeJournal @EFF @linuxfoundation also kinda missed the stop deleting games movement, other excessive online requirements/subscriptions for software/hardware, and like you mentioned the digital ID push (age verification etc). Maybe crypto KYC too?

@cybereality @nervencid @LundukeJournal @EFF @linuxfoundation Good point. Maybe it's more correct to say they're focused on just a portion of privacy. The part they're largely missing is once mostly open platforms are starting to lock down (require a login to install or get in the way of non-approved software etc)...

@ZPostFacto @davepl1968 I've used RCS, CVS, Subversion, and Git and from what I heard from past coworkers was that Visual Source Safe was worse than all four. (although I'm a little skeptical it could have been worse than RCS)

@LundukeJournal Blocking an adult's ability to communicate with another adult just because neither want to require or submit ID (even if it happens over http) is a blatant attack on free speech even if it's done under the guise age verification.

Huge news in the fight against laws which would require Age Verification in Operating Systems: Two proposed Michigan laws (House Bill 4429 and Senate Bill 284) have been withdrawn following public backlash against this type of Age Verification. Even though these bills have been pulled, some of the original sponsors are “working with advocacy groups on potential replacement legislation”. Hat tip to reporting from @ApelElyse, published on @thecentersquare: thecentersquare.com/michigan/artic…
