@ATabarrok Europe already sends people to jail for memes. Maybe this really is about the children
English

It’s not about the children. Never has been.

BREAKING: The European Parliament just voted in favor of banning social media for people under the age of 16. 483 MEPs voted in favor while 92 voted against. If it becomes law, people will likely have to use IDs to log into their profiles, making anonymous accounts impossible.

@kobyjconrad Sunflower looks like a wrapper that amounts to a prompt "you are a helpful sponsor" something to that effect
Sure maybe this is helpful for some but is it a business? Just use gpt and provide a reasonable prompt. I wish ppl were just more ambitious. What % of yc is this prompts?

The amount of people judging me for building Sunflower is insane
“What qualifications do you have to do this?” 👀
Idk man, but I’m doing it

People will say you’re unqualified. They’ll call what you’re doing inappropriate. That’s when you know you’re on the right track. Paul Graham on building from the margins:

Cause of death revealed in mysterious Burning Man murder of Russian national Vadim Kruglov trib.al/XQ0PQT6

@Royals19851 @MattWalshBlog That’s not mass shootings. When you factor in people that target innocent kids. The numbers shift dramatically.

There are a lot of people, even on the right, who don’t want to talk about the racial angle of these crimes. But here’s the fact: if I told you that a person was randomly butchered on a train and then I asked you to guess the race of the assailant, you would guess black and be correct nearly every time. That’s just the simple reality. We all know it. There is a very obvious pattern here, well established over the course of many decades. The dividing line is not between those who recognize it and those who don’t. We all recognize it. The line is between those who are willing to say it out loud and those who aren’t.

@lisperati I heard someone said that crypto is basically levered NASDAQ. The idea that it's some kind of hedge to inflation or some monetary policy put just doesn't hold and never did. Its rise coincided with easy money COVID stimulus mania

@DrCamRx @MurrayHillGuy1 Screw that. Tell that 20yo that she'll be babysitting this dude when she's in her 40s, very much alive and young. No way would I prefer that for my daughter

@garrytan VC thinks you should be more aggressive and raise more capital 🤯
Power law works great when you can have dozens of investments and your top winner more than buys back the fund. But as a founder, this sucks.
It's fair to say incentives aren't aligned and advice from VC is sus

@lisperati Isn't this because humans evolved to chase down these animals? Pure endurance play. Better hunting, more protein, bigger brains. Not completely orthogonal

@comma_ai When comma 4?
Do you guys do navigation yet? Hotz always mentions you guys are one to two years behind tesla so I think it's time 👀

@beinlibertarian Stop the ideological crap like driver's license and repealing civil rights. Say we're about moving forward, practical stuff. Like opt in privatized social security for example

@dennismhogan @AgentSwitters Do you feel the same way about prison or police unions?

Does anyone know who’s informing @ZohranKMamdani’s public health/mental health platforms? Mamdani seems likely to have both the opportunity and commitment to reconstruct a major US public health system and demonstrate a new model of public care at a time when we most need it.

@EconTalker It's the art of talking without saying anything. Nothing is real. Everything is subcontext. Totally vapid conversation. Really fun to watch

Have finished the first three seasons of Succession and starting season 4. Nothing happens, really, in the first three seasons. Pretty much every episode is "the children are afraid of their father and suspicious of each other. They scheme for an advantage while suspecting the worst of each other." Everyone is narcissistic and crueler than anyone you know in real life, and everyone is a little twisted sexually. Or a lot. Virtually every character is despicable, albeit in their own way. The family holds meetings in the nicest places on earth and we get to enjoy the limos, helicopters, lodgings, and food. These items all get lots of air time. And yet. It's hard not to watch. At least half of the appeal is that despite the lack of creativity in the plot, the dialogue is extraordinary. Sparkling doesn't cover it. It is as vulgar as possible and yet the creativity of the vulgarity is outstanding. Half of the cleverest lines are so good you can't tell whether the scriptwriters are so cutting edge that they know so many expressions from the investment/business world you've never heard of or maybe they're just making them up to sound like the latest expressions. I think the latter, but who knows. The acting is extraordinary and the characters are remarkably vivid when you combine the acting and the dialogue. I feel slightly degraded watching it. But it's hard to turn away. I will almost certainly finish the series, but I'm not proud of it.
