I will always take the opportunity to request into the ether for a movie about Robert Smalls. Born into enslavement, during the early Civil War, Smalls escaped his plantation, commandeered a confederate transport ship, sailed it to Union territory and freed himself, his family, the crew and their families. His story persuaded Lincoln to allow Black men to enlist. He would become pilot for another vessel that was a gunboat accompanying the Platner, the original ship Smalls commandeered, when they were overwhelmed by Confederate forces. The white captain abandoned the ship and fled, leaving Smalls with the decision to fight to the death rather than accept defeat. He was able to overcome one of the confederate ships and return with his original Platner ship and crew to safety, receiving the in-field commission of Captain. He'd later become a state rep for South Carolina.. It is deeply frustrating to see these distinct three rich eras of storymaking be passed over in Hollywood, opting for incessant remakes of 80s bullshit like Miami Vice en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Sm…

unmanaged childhood adhd is one of the main predispositions to substance misuse in later life. to those who are prone to addiction, euphoria feels different than it does to neurotypicals. it makes ppl feel whole, complete -- the compulsive use comes from seeking those feelings of safety
