@NotCharva @TypicallyJayden yes. dressing up in a costume is a normal and healthy kid activity. that's why dressing up in a kid's costume as an adult is childish. because princess dress up time is a thing that kids do.

i dressed up as spiderman who is an adult therefore its not childish
NotCharva🔻@NotCharva

@heliaporia You realise that if a child wears a tiara and magic wand thats them impersonating an adult character right ? You understand that’s what is happening if they dress us up as a princess that’s what we as little girls want we’re impersonating an older character

@GodzillaM18 @Skallywag_again perfect example of buzzwords being shit you don't understand because this review does explain the films americentrism and doesn't claim that the recreation of venus scene promotes consumerism.

@Skallywag_again Because it doesn't explain how the film is Americacentric while also claiming that the recreation of venus via shit you can get at a hardware store is promoting consumerism nor does it explain how any of these aspects make the film bad

At this point I’m convinced what a lot of you people think are “buzzwords” are just words and phrases you don’t understand lol

A Danish scientist counted bugs on the same windshield, same road, same conditions, every year for 20 years. By year 20, 80% of the insects were gone. In Germany, a group of volunteer bug scientists did something even bigger. They set traps in 63 nature reserves, not farms, protected land, and weighed everything they caught. Same traps, same method, 27 years straight. The total weight of flying bugs dropped 76%. In midsummer, when insects should be peaking, it was 82% gone. A follow-up in 2020 and 2021 checked again. No recovery. In the UK, they literally ask drivers to count splats on their license plates after a trip. The 2024 count came back 63% lower than just 2021. Three years. A 2020 study pulled together 166 surveys from 1,676 locations around the world. Land insects are disappearing at roughly 9% every ten years. Here’s where it hits your plate. About 75% of the food crops we grow depend on insects to pollinate them, everything from apples to almonds to coffee. One 2025 study modeled what a full pollinator collapse would look like: food prices jump 30%, the global economy takes a $729 billion hit, and the world loses 8% of its Vitamin A supply. Birds are already feeling it. North America has lost 2.9 billion birds since 1970. A study from just weeks ago found half of 261 bird species on the continent are now in serious decline, and the losses are speeding up in farming regions. The birds that eat insects lost 2.9 billion. The birds that don’t eat insects? They gained 26 million. That ratio tells the whole story. One of the German researchers behind the 27-year study drives a Land Rover. He says it has the aerodynamics of a refrigerator. It stays clean now.

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter no, teenagers (even white teenagers) do not perpetuate capitalism or white supremacy simply by participating in cultural exchange. appropriation is worth being concerned about, what's pointless is litigating the speech habits of children.

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter moreover I think it's ridiculous to claim that the zoomer usage of "okay yes ___" is made up on the spot and totally divergent from the AAVE usage when the zoomer use only makes sense in the cultural context where the AAVE use exists and certainly originated with black zoomers.

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter for basically all of history, young people have remixed language norms; this is a driving force of cultural progression. it's only worth getting mad at if it's a change of language in a way that demeans or denigrates minority populations. this has happened, but not in this case.

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter I'm also not trying to say the culture itself must be lost. the losses are wrt the culture's exclusivity and purity. other integrated cultures are less exclusive and more diluted than they once were. maybe that's a shame but the heart of the culture can survive it.

@employednt @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter i also don't think we should have to accept "losses" of our culture as a price to integrate. the chinese, brits, + so many more still have their ancient culture intact. we should be able to do the same (ofc w/o forced assimilation)

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter --by socioeconomic equality. cultural blending comes with real pains and real losses but it's a better alternative so long as it's not forced assimilation, and white people using (even misusing) AAVE is what non-assimilative blending is always gonna look like.

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter idc about black american culture being made palatable to white ppl I just think that insulating it against any and all cultural blending can't be done without causing a lot of pain for everyone involved. cultural segregation is a bad thing, even if it magically was accompanied--

@nicole1_hi @azrieldnice @foreverimbetter I guess what I don't see in this is how black culture is getting erased. It's being copied and remixed but the og culture still exists and I guarantee that the tiktok faux AAVE slang is going to die out long before black american culture fades away.

Hi
Hi@nicole1_hi·
@employednt @azrieldnice @foreverimbetter would be a non-issue. But being that ppl are telling us to accept this adoption for what it is at face value, aave misuse IS an issue bc again, it’s just another way to erase black culture and subjugate black ppl to white standards of sociocultural mechanisms.

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter I respect that I'm saying this from outside the culture and lack some context, but it seems clear to me that the only alternative is cultural isolationism and that this is far more harmful than some occasional confusion.

@employednt @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter was speaking in absolutes toward OPs point. if you didnt read the reply i alr commented my understanding of both. the confusion in general is why making AAVE fluid is a problem. it does help us know who aint really us tho

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter I think people are generally intelligent enough to register the tonal and contextual differences that separate the two usages. marginal instances of confusion may happen, but the zoomer usage isn't going to overwrite the AAVE usage any time soon.

@employednt @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter problem is changing the meaning changes the perception. now whenever someone hears this their mind goes to "they don't care," which isn't the intention. an uplifting moment turns into a misunderstanding because of the misuse. you don't change a culture's tongue to "diversify" it

@nicole1_hi @azrieldnice @foreverimbetter This is an uneven and predatory system but the problematic part is the economic asymmetry, not teenagers picking up on language differences. this dialect blending is just part of what happens as subcultures grow less antagonistic, which is a good thing!

@azrieldnice @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter so if you're not policing semantics, what's the problem here? it's not "correct" to AAVE but that's not something I understand the point of caring about - linguistic drift is a necessary feature of diverse societies and is only going to continue to happen.

@employednt @sparrow87940105 @foreverimbetter did you read my last reply? words do have meaning for this very reason. i was never policing semantics + saying it CANNOT be used that way. like any dialect, there are SO many ways to screw it up such as diluting it to mean "idgaf"

@nicole1_hi @azrieldnice @foreverimbetter I respect that the predatory use of black american culture by the entertainment industry is a significant problem but I think wanting to protect it to the extent that even harmless dialect blending is forbidden does nobody any good

Hi
Hi@nicole1_hi·
@employednt @azrieldnice @foreverimbetter But, that’s never going to happen and ppl are going to keep making excuses to misuse Aave bc most ppl don’t believe AA have legitimate culture and only see AA as entertainment sources, nothing to be taken seriously or to be cared for.

@sparrow87940105 @employednt @foreverimbetter that's what i mean. the originators don't use it to be facetious. i understand tone, blending, context, etc, but using it that way is still incorrect. it's like saying "congrats, so happy for you." no one exclusively uses it to be sarcastic, but it can be.
