@zekramu slack is a solution for an artificially created problem where you have tons of people who cant work by themselves so you have to micromanage them In my last team for which I hired people myself we were basically using slack only for sharing memes, eveyone was working autonomously

>trying to solve a problem with opus 4.6 for 20 minutes >no success >meanwhile gpt limits refresh >now active gpt advisor instantly finds a critical bug and suggest a fix that solves the problem tl;dr: use gpt 5.5 and omp

talking to people IRL just feels slow now. I really do not care about sportsball and I really don't want to have to explain what an api is or why default settings in chatgpt or claude are awful and not what people are acutally using to get work done

Trying to understand how usage credits got enabled without me turning them on, then managed to exceed my monthly spend limit by 479%? No wonder Anthropic is profitable

Warning: this is extremely opinionated Icks: OOP ansible with a major cloud provider kubernetes *prematurely* programming languages Values faang/college credentials Worked somewhere without equity >5 years Brags about money raised/invested rather than value created or actual revenue js frameworks Talks about different languages as if they're entire subjects (Yeah i'm expert in js and python) it all compiles to C bro respects IP law Thinks proprietary software is inherently more secure java/C# and you do not work in IB/HFT Brand loyalty rather than individual products microsoft anything career pivot very clearly purely for money obsesses over window managers or linux distros grad school of any kind vercel / any serverless bullshit but doesn't know what a lambda function is AWS/GCP/Azure clickops user shitbucket github green squares infosec/IT/cybersecurity for longer than a couple years (couldn't hack it with the swes/sres or functional alcoholic) Still believes in an "apple tax" in 2026 league of legends video calls over voice Thinks they write better code than 5.4 and drive better than FSD believes in magic soil (San Francisco mostly) doesn't write tests learns about something new then tries to implement literally everywhere extremely strict agile Pure frontend dev (these are kind of extinct now) python / js package manager obsessed (it's going in a container) noSQL "hardtech" Dwarkesh Conflates proximity to money as having money Similarly, advertises lavish lifestyle of any kind (actual rich people have 2 friends irl and don't post because they're too busy working or w/ family) In the same type of role for 20+ years w/o retiring or starting a biz or getting bored Into crypto other than straight up btc/eth and maybe solana makes sexuality or political opinions their entire personality (this goes both ways) Data scientists that have only used python Similarly, jupyter notebooks judges quality of something based on political opinions of creator shiny object syndrome generally still using claude code right now (lol) classic midwit tell is purposefully using large words or filling time to sound smarter than you are "orthogonal" Boons: math/physics degree (not cs or ds) data structures stats Perl regex unix nerds LISP/SICP (for school/fun) knuth/taocp minecraft server admin when younger (unironically) knew about crypto before ETH and coinbase knows who aaron swartz and ellen pao are into ML before covid vi, like raw vi or emacs vanilla i3 or tmux boy scout into databases or RL has done an engine swap on a car knows what llvm is has written a compiler can tell you what the last thinkpad model numbers with a socketed cpu or original keyboard layout is from memory has baked an xbox or gpu at some point NATO alphabet on calls and clear "confirmed/correct" communication has opinions on software licenses knows every power main and circuit in their house quake / roller coaster tycoon / sims 1 appreciator C/C++/Rust from the middle of nowhere and moved immigrants at difficult non-nepo jobs in the US (yeah I said it shits hard) different religion/politics from parents AND school shows upward mobility/ability to leave comfort zone for opportunities generally into computer stuff as a kid without tiger parents or school verilog/fpgas was into private torrent trackers at some point white/asian/jewish and got into an ivy or mit/ucb/stanford post 2015 for a non-bs program mined crypto at some point kernel dev or maintainer at some point top ranked in some obscure game at some point has kids but almost never mentions it at work (nothing wrong with having kids, usually is just an excuse to get out of doing stuff) victoria 2 starcraft / old school rts people generally played mmos before wow dota factorio and tekkit/ftb commonwealthers /g/ and slashdot oldheads I'd also say the further east you go in europe the more I agree with technical opinions generally speaking. I could list these all day.
Roy@usr_bin_roygbiv

I should make a list of icks when i'm talking to people that make me immediately discredit that person's other technical opinions. People citing years of experience, degrees, or individual programming languages as if they're totally different concepts from one another etc.
