@ImLunaHey @GrnCharlie government is a complex process of building a system of incentives and disincentives in order to achieve the goals and refusing to work with the private sector because they are le bad has never led to long term solutions or long term growth

supporting a rent cap is a signifier that you are deeply stupid and should not be trusted with running the economy

Five things we learned about “Zackonomics” Zack Polanski wants to see Britain rejoin the EU, forgive student debt, cap rent, nationalise the water industry, and much more By @meganekenyon #Echobox=1773842050" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">newstatesman.com/politics/uk-po…

@GrnCharlie you need both state and private development to deal with the housing crisis its not realistic to expect the full burden and cost of housebuilding to be supported by the taxpayer. the private sector isnt le greedy capitalists acting soely out of being pure evil
English

@llwtydeer @GrnCharlie lol that's not even slightly true. remind me how many houses are empty again?
English

@GrnCharlie beacuse thats not how supply and demand work. housing costs are high because of a lack of housing supply, and often rent caps just discourage the construction of new to let housing which can make the problem worse

joining the EU isn’t Britain’s choice, that decision belongs to the EU. putting it in an election manifesto is populist bullshit. besides, nobody in their right mind would want an open border with the UK now.
Sadiq Khan@SadiqKhan
The evidence is overwhelming: Brexit has been a disaster for London and the UK. Rejoining the EU is now clearly in our national interest. The option to rejoin should be on the ballot at the next General Election. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

@Bristol_Matt05 @D_Raval @ZackPolanski 😂 no you wouldn’t as you don’t and won’t ever make enough to be effected by this.

Something genuinely different happened in British politics today.
Zack Polanski gave his first major economic speech as Green Party leader and it wasn't the usual vague gestures you get from other party leaders. It was a diagnosis and a plan.
The diagnosis: privatisation, austerity and Brexit haven't just been bad policy choices, they've locked Britain into a structural trap. A "bond market doom loop" where financial markets constrain every government before it's even started.
The plan ("Zackonomics") is built around ending rip-off Britain for the people who actually keep this country running:
→ Freeze energy bills now (£8.4bn, funded by the windfall tax)
→ Cap rents
→ Nationalise water
→ Scrap Right to Buy
→ Forgive student debt
→ Rejoin the Customs Union and eventually the EU
Funded by making wealth pay its share: a wealth tax, equalising capital gains with income tax, and closing the loopholes that let the richest opt out.
Is every detail nailed down? No. But this is what it looks like when a party leader actually tries to match the scale of the problem. Britain's economic settlement is broken. Someone finally said it.

@Bristol_Matt05 @Extra_Ploofy @D_Raval @ZackPolanski if you need this explained to you then go back to school kid.
English

@D_Raval lol nobody is going to pay a ‘wealth tax’, they’ll all bugger off & ordinary working people will pay for these silly student wish lists
English

@D_Raval This is what happens when student politics is allowed to stand with the adults.
All these ideas have been tried somewhere and failed perfectly, because they are stupid ideas.
But students never understand that just because it's failed before always means it will fail next time!
English

Mental, here’s why:
- Freeze energy bill through windfall tax, creates massive barriers to entry and will have to push up costs (somewhere else)
- cap rents: doesn’t work, creates housing shortages and poorer conditions.
Wealth tax will make the most mobile group of the economy leave. Simple as that. Unless you become a dictator and confiscate, the tax revenue will plummet overall because not only will there be less wealth tax to collect, less wealthy people to tax elsewhere.
Stupid economics. wackanomics
English

@D_Raval I’m wondering how a man of such clear economic illiteracy is able to get to a position to influence people. It’s dangerous. He then throws around things like “rejoin the EU” which will make people take notice as they have been told to blame everything on Brexit
