Various actors are promoting the increasingly common trope that reasoned criticisms of court rulings amount to attacks on the “rule of law” and “judicial independence”. These attempts to weaponize the rule of law against public scrutiny of judicial decisions should be resisted.
Jamie Sarkonak@sarkonakj

The CBA is scolding an unnamed journalist for criticizing a judge, calling it a "crude effort at undermining public confidence in the judiciary." Since this is clearly about me: I will not apologize for my column about Justice Faisal Mirza two weeks ago.

A NYC school teacher has a GREAT idea for billionaires leaving New York. 🤣🙄 He suggests that if the billion dollar companies leave then the regular folks should just take over their businesses. Journalist: “What do you say to the folks who say, if you tax millionaires, they're going to leave the city and the top 1% pays 40% of the taxes in the city. What happens if they leave? What's your response?” NYC Teacher: “We should take their business and we run it for the city ourselves.” 🤡 Journalist: “They take their business to Florida, you feel like you can keep it here?” NYC Teacher: “They can't leave the building. They can't just bring their whole entire workforce to Florida. Right? They can't bring all of the resources that they have to build the business here to Florida. Thats where you would say we're building a real movement, right?” “To stop that, we’d make it illegal for them to actually leave. We would find them to hell if they're gonna try to abandon their property here. Because clearly people do need to work, right? People do need to make a living.” Are they really all this stupid?? @Prairielily22 As a person living in southern Alberta I would say I have a lot more in common with someone from Montana rather than a maritimer living 3000 miles away. I would agree with what you’re saying

The biggest reason for Western independence isn't political or economical; it's geographical. Canada is just way too damn big to be governed as one nation, and there is a major geographical divider--the Canadian shield in Northwest Ontario. People on both sides typically don't travel to the other side and this has lead to major cultural, economical and political differences between both. To those who have spent time in both the east and west, you will have noticed those differences--its like being in two different countries. And for places like Saskatchewan and Alberta, having a capital city where seats of the federal government--the House of Commons, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and the majority of the federal Civil Service--as well as the head offices of all 3 of the major news outlets in Toronto, being 3000 or so miles away, has resulted in a very lopsided and unequal confederation. Compare the distance of other places in the world which have either split up, or are trying to split up: Edinburgh, Scotland to London England 649km Prague, Czechia to Bratislava, Slovakia 328km Stockholm, Sweden to Oslo, Norway 529km Canada is just very very big, too big. While Russia and China use very undemocratic means to keep their large country together, the United States has a better counterbalance between more populous and less populous states via an equal Senate. Canada, in the other hand, is not managing well with keeping its various regions united. Have you ever thought that the disintegration of the Canadian confederation is just a natural, necessary process which would always end up happening?

@dubsndoo I’d like a list of companies that she consulted that want a strong predictable carbon tax. I say she consulted no one in industry about anything

This has to go down as one of the biggest lies ever told by a senior federal government minister. Industry wants to be able to compete internationally to sell their products. An industrial carbon tax puts their ability to turn a profit and compete internationally in jeopardy.
Jasmin Laine@JasminLaine_

According to Canada’s Environment Minister, “a strong predictable Carbon Price” is what industries are looking for. Do you believe this is what industry CEO’s want in Canada?

It’s amazing how the media portrays our politicians as people who are doing this organically & that it was all their decision to run to China. Canada is a controlled nation, these puppets are following orders. And CBC is responsible for marketing it to us

Building a high speed rail (HSR) line would seem a lot more feasible if we had one regular passenger rail line that wasn’t a complete dumpster fire. This is going to be a generational boondoggle and infinite money pit.
