Armenia's Prosecutors Seek Permission to Prosecute Former President Kocharyan and Two Allies, Days After Blocking Him at the Airport ➖➖➖ Armenia's Prosecutor General's Office has petitioned the Central Electoral Commission for permission to lift the immunity and bring criminal prosecution against former President and opposition Armenia Alliance leader Robert Kocharyan, along with two of the bloc's parliamentary candidates, Asatur Kocharyan, 154th on its electoral list, and Ruslan Barseghyan, 62nd, seeking the arrest of the two candidates. Because the three remain election candidates, their immunity can only be lifted with the CEC's consent, which the petition seeks. According to the prosecutors' filing, the relevant supporting case materials were submitted alongside the request. The office is seeking permission not only to prosecute the two candidates, Asatur Kocharyan and Barseghyan, but also to arrest them as a restraint measure. In Robert Kocharyan's case, the petition refers to prosecution only and makes no mention of arrest. It is not yet known which criminal case the petition concerns. Kocharyan's only existing prosecution is the long-running "March 1" case, tied to the deadly 2008 post-election unrest, and in that case he is under no travel ban, his son, MP Levon Kocharyan, has said. The petition follows the blocking of Kocharyan at Yerevan's Zvartnots airport days earlier, when authorities prevented the former president from leaving on a pre-announced private trip. Neither the Prosecutor General's Office nor the National Security Service has explained the legal basis for that stop. The move also aligns with what Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan promised throughout the campaign. Branding the opposition the "three-headed party of war," he repeatedly threatened new criminal cases, declaring that "Robert Kocharyan will go to prison, Gagik Tsarukyan will go to prison, Samvel Karapetyan will go to prison," and reaffirmed those statements at a recent government session. The petition against Kocharyan comes within days of the tax-evasion indictment of Tsarukyan, a separate prosecution of Tsarukyan's son-in-law, and a court ruling stripping Tsarukyan's Olympic Committee of $90 million in Tsaghkadzor land, as Kocharyan's Armenia Alliance and other opposition forces challenge the June 7 election results before the Constitutional Court.

Он познакомился с девушкой в баре, повел ее через лесополосу, где набросился и изнасиловал, а затем ударил камнем по голове. Татьяна погибла от травм. У нее остался маленький ребенок. While Moscow escalates political and economic pressure, Brussels has moved to publicly congratulate and endorse the electoral process, framing it as part of Armenia's continued democratic trajectory. The Kremlin is withholding Putin's congratulations and a planned meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan until final results are published, citing "numerous irregularities," while Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov demanded Armenia quickly choose between the EU and the Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union and announced that the CSTO will weigh penalties over Armenia's unpaid dues, ranging up to expulsion. Created at Yerevan's request, the mission is tasked with supporting cybersecurity resilience, countering disinformation, and strengthening financial transparency systems. It operates alongside the existing EU monitoring mission deployed in 2023, marking a steady expansion of EU institutional engagement in Armenia. Yerevan's Response Armenian officials have largely downplayed the pressure, insisting the elections were free and legitimate and that Armenia's foreign policy remains sovereign. Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan, asked about Moscow's refusal to congratulate and its fraud allegations, said "the people accepted the election results as free, fair, transparent elections," and expressed confidence that "the congratulations will continue." On Lavrov's demands, she said Pashinyan and the foreign minister "have clearly presented the position of the Republic of Armenia," adding: "Nothing is delayed." Officials also stress that both EU cooperation and regional economic ties remain important, rejecting the framing of a forced binary choice between Moscow and Brussels. Infrastructure Minister David Khudatyan said gas supplies are secured and the risks to the economy are manageable. Pashinyan has reiterated that his government will continue advancing European integration while managing existing economic dependencies with Russia.

Absolutely not . There is no way they could possibly rebuild faster than SpaceX rebuilt Massey’s. Keep in mind SpaceX had the remarkable luck of having a brand new team dedicated to mass producing launch pads when that incident happened. No one else in the industry has a team like that. Not even close. Even with that massive advantage, it took 8 months to get that test stand operational again. And that test stand that doesn’t feature the tallest launch tower and water tower in the world. Expecting anything less than 1 year is far too optimistic. I’d be shocked if they accomplish it in less than 18 months. I’m not betting against them, in fact I hope I’m wrong…but we should try to be more realistic with these expectations.
