So you are saying that in a Chinese conflict, we will choke China via this point? You are very intelligent: you are fully aware that we have no bargaining power versus the Chinese. With $110 billion deficit, our economy runs on China and will close down if they turn off the taps. We have no cards versus them or versus America either. While we are on this subject, why did we so meekly give up on Gwadar? That was supposed to be a counter to CPEC Chabahar, right? I am not interested in the politics of Nicobar project. I am only questioning whether the strategic value you are writing about at all exists in reality given our weakness and meekness qua the 2 genuine superpowers

How flustered are you Himanta? Your family is saddled with allegations of corruption and has a lot to answer. But you chose to run a completely false and vile campaign against Gaurav Gogoi’s wife - who has nothing to do with politics You didn’t seem to care then Stop crying
Himanta Biswa Sarma@himantabiswa

I don’t need lessons on democracy, public discourse or decency from anyone, especially from @DrAMSinghvi . Decency and him can never be in the same room. The real issue here pertains to a woman - who has nothing to do with politics - but has her character assassinated on national television using FORGED documents from other countries. I am confident the courts will take note of this, sooner or later and the guilty will be punished for his brazen act of maligning a woman's character using false documents to influence electoral outcomes. Also Dr Singhvi, it’s easy to speak on a platform where I am not present to respond. That is not called a debate- it is simply avoiding a fair exchange, one which you were espousing. And let me be clear, this is just the beginning, not the end. Satyamev Jayate.

I saw that video of the Bengali woman confronting her online abuser. It seemed to me the perfect example of why West Bengal is so important for the Right Wing to conquer. The patriarchal fascism of the right faces off with the fierce, strong and unapologetic resistance of the Woman here and ALWAYS loses. That simply won't do! The Woman HAS to be controlled, shown her place, made to bow! The fall of Bengal will be the ultimate ego boost for the fragile patriarchy of the Right. It never wants to appear to the world in its reality, like the the whimpering, stammering, ashamed man who threatened r@pe when his arguments failed. It will do anything to hide that. It ALREADY IS.

Wow. @BJP4Maharashtra having a victory rally in Mumbai on Monday to “celebrate” an election result in West Bengal. How are they confident of winning even before counting begins? Have permissions been secured for this rally? What is the route for this rally, @MumbaiPolice @MTPHereToHelp? Doesn’t the High Court order on processions being restricted to Azad Maidan apply here? Or do we want a repeat of Nari Shakti Vandanam Jan Akrosh drama in Nariman Point? “Subject: Invitation to Victory Rally – 04.05.2026 (Monday) at 12:30. Dear Sir/Madam, This is to inform you that a Victory Rally has been organized on Monday, 4th May 2026, at the BJP Office, Nariman Point, to celebrate the expected success in the West Bengal Assembly Election. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, will address the gathering. All members are cordially invited to attend and be a part of this occasion. A special request is extended to our Ladies Wing to participate in traditional Bengali attire (red-bordered saree) and perform Sankha and Ulu dhwani, adding cultural grace to the celebration. Your presence will make the event more vibrant and meaningful. Warm regards, Sri.Subhagata Das Hon.Chairman,All Maharashtra’s Bengali Cell.“

I met Abhay Mokashi at Bhavan’s College of Mass Communications, Chowpatty, Mumbai, in the last years of previous century. We were both visiting faculty members there. At the time, Abhay was the Political Editor of Mid-Day, Mumbai. We had a professional organisation called The Media Meet, which recognised and honoured media professionals. For one of our awards functions, we invited him as a guest speaker. We reconnected when he joined the Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC) and brought me in to teach as well. After a short period, I left XIC, and unfortunately, we lost touch after that. This morning, I learned that he has passed away. I felt like kicking myself for not staying in touch. I am deeply sorry for losing a gem of a person — a knowledgeable, kind, and truly wonderful human being. One of those rare journalists who had every right to call himself a “Journalist” with pride and dignity. I can only remember him with this beautiful Urdu couplet: वो लोग हमने एक ही शोखी में खो दिए पैदा किए फलक ने जिन्हें खाक छान कर Wo log humne ek hi shokhi mein kho diye, Paida kiye falak ne jinhe khaak chhaan kar. English Translation: Those people whom we lost in a single stroke of mischief (or whim), The heavens had created them only after sifting through the dust (of the earth).

India's Cell Broadcast isn't groundbreaking new tech—the standard has existed for years and most phones already support it (including multilingual). What's happening now: Full activation + integration across all major carriers,
Anish Moonka@anishmoonka

India just turned on a system that can warn over a billion phones in under 10 seconds. The loud alarm that scared everyone today was the test run. When a flood or an earthquake hits, regular text messages fail. SMS is one-to-one. Each text goes to one phone at a time, and during a real emergency, when the whole country is calling family, the network gets jammed. People wait hours for a warning. Sometimes the warning never gets there at all. The new system, called Cell Broadcast, works like a radio station. The cell tower throws one signal into the air, and every phone in range catches it at the same instant. There’s no queue and no waiting. Millions of phones light up together. The whole thing was built in India, by a government lab called C-DOT. It runs in 19 Indian languages. It doesn’t need a SIM card or mobile data. The signal goes straight from the tower into your phone hardware. It’s also smart enough to aim. The government can send a cyclone warning only to people on the coast of Andhra Pradesh, while Delhi gets nothing. Tsunamis, earthquakes, lightning strikes, gas leaks, and chemical spills are next. India already had a slower version of this. It’s called SACHET, and it has sent 134 billion alerts over the years. Cell Broadcast sits on top of SACHET and kicks in when seconds decide who lives. For context: Japan built this in 2007, after years of earthquakes. The US built theirs in 2012. India just joined the club, and at over a billion phones, this is now one of the biggest emergency broadcast networks on the planet.
