Just learned about Ken Isaacs' "Superchair" (1967). Built-in book rest, shelves, lamp, drink tray, and a seat back that folds into a bed. A place for "inventive work and the individual search for peace of mind", as he put it. It was meant for people to build it themselves, hence the almost unfinished look. Blueprints were published in Popular Science in 1968.

When Vincent Price & a young director, Michael Reeves went into a war of words during the filming of "Witchfinder General" (1968): Michael Reeves originally wanted Donald Pleasence for the part of Matthew Hopkins instead of Vincent Price. During this scene, Vincent Price gives a speech to his friend and he was really hamming it up. Now Michael Reeves went up to him and said, ‘Vinnie, please don’t move your head about.’ And Vincent said, ‘Young man, don’t move my head about. Thank You!’” “They shot the scene again and this time Michael said to him, ‘Don’t wave your arms about.’ I mean, he was deliberately doing it. So, Vincent replied, ‘Young man, don’t move my arms about. Thank You!’” “Well, they shot it again and this time, his voice goes over the top. Now there are a lot of people there playing the villagers and it’s costing a lot of money. So, Michael said, ‘Vinnie, why are you hamming it?’ Vincent Price then drew himself up to his full six-foot four and looked down upon Michael Reeves who was only six-foot one and said to him in his best stentorian voice, ‘Young man, I have made over 70 films, how many have you made?’ and Michael Reeves said, ‘Two good ones!’ Vincent Price laughed louder than anyone else and that broke all of the tension.” ("The Price of Fear: The Film Career of Vincent Price", Joel Eisner, 2013)

Don Coscarelli on where he got the idea for 'Phantasm' (1979) & the surprise about the film's popularity even after so many decades: "I had a compunction to try to do something in the horror genre and I started thinking about how our culture handles death; it’s different than in other societies. We have this central figure of a mortician. He dresses in dark clothing, he lurks behind doors, they do procedures on the bodies we don’t know about. The whole embalming thing, if you ever do any research on it, is pretty freaky. It all culminates in this grand funerary service production. It’s strange stuff. It just seemed like it would be a great area in which to make a film. The goal was just to finish 'Phantasm' (1979) and get it out in a few theaters. To think that decades later people would still be thinking and talking about it, I could have never imagined." ("Happy birthday, Tall Man! ‘Phantasm’ turns 30", LA Times, 2009) P.S: On this day, 47 years ago, 'Phantasm' (1979) was released in the USA.

@SandyofCthulhu I think Maniac Cop 2 pulls it off by being arguably a better movie than the first and putting the whole wacky theme into overdrive. It would probably be legendary if it didn't ice Bruce Campbell super early as well.

This is a movie, not a game, but in Maniac Cop, Jack Forrest was the awesome hero throughout. Then he gets killed IN THE OPENING SCENE in Maniac Cop 2. That was Not Good. Then in Aliens, we end the film with Newt & Hicks, and Ripley all sailing away. In Aliens 3 two of those are killed BEFORE THE MOVIE STARTS. What is wrong with these directors?!

Someone keep reposting this quote over and over again with a different scene. Also people had 16 years between 1983 to 1999 to think about what Episode 1-3 would be like. They probably had something totally epic built up in there heads. Its not that unthinkable that people were disappointed with Senate Hearings and Trade Disputes.

Well, if nothing else, this seems like a good time to confess I never liked the work of J.K. Rowling, even before she started eating black mold.

@iquilezles @anicic_filip @BOENSAW Everyone wants to think they are in the Matrix and doing some super cool entity simulation reality engine. In reality it is just clumsy code failing to do something simple, at great cost in complexity, speed and reliability.

the more experienced I get programming games the more that I realize patterns like inheritance and components don't matter, the only thing that matters is functions and entities which run functions... entities might be the next thing to go

@Bendyfan725 The lore may be a bit more complicated than that, though I am trying to reign it in somewhat at this point, and focusing on some of the main story-beats I have planned!

@SandyofCthulhu This did NOTHING for me when I was a kid, but I very recently rewatched it and enjoyed it. Style to burn and the most ridiculous luxury-sized landing spacecraft. The big hairdo reveals after they start taking off their skull caps was the biggest jump-scare.

In my head this wars with Quatermass and the Pit for the greatest science fiction movie ever made. If you haven't seen Planet of the Vampires, you are in for a treat. It scared me so bad as a kid I tried to hide behind the theater seat. The lighting. The sets. The horrors. Don't be turned off by the stupid title. There's no vampires. There ARE alien parasites though.
