This isn’t how friends treat each other, Canada
“Canada’s refusal to comply with the terms of our trade agreement is a betrayal of our friendship,” says ACT Trade spokesperson @Parmjeet_Parmar.
“It’s hard to think of two countries with warmer relations than New Zealand and Canada. Our shared history and cultural similarities ought to be the basis of a close, good-faith relationship. But on trade, Canada is shutting us out.
“Canada signed the CPTPP knowing their exporters would benefit from reduced barriers to trade. But free trade is meant to go both ways, and Canada has so far failed to remove barriers to our dairy exports as agreed.
“In September, Canada was told by the CPTPP Panel that it was failing to keep up its end of the deal. Canada was given a deadline of this week to comply with the terms of the deal, but their new tariff rules continue to shield the Canadian dairy sector from healthy competition.
“Free trade is a win-win. Kiwi dairy farmers are happy to send competitively priced products to Canada, where consumers would enjoy the benefits of greater choice and competition. And we happily accept imports from our Canadian friends, knowing that when two friends trade, both are better off.
“ACT welcomes the Trade Minister’s confirmation that he is seeking advice on next steps. We cannot allow Canadian disloyalty to set an example for other signatories of our trade agreements. If Canada can’t comply with the terms of a formal agreement, they should be booted out of the deal.”

@actparty Any chance you can look over the fence at the PM and his TikTok team then? Every $ spent comes from the Tax Payer. Thanks in advance.... btw when are you getting to the relentless focus on the cost of living part?

We don't pay public servants to prop up the Wellington hospitality scene. We pay them to deliver vital public services, with the knowledge that every dollar spent comes from the pocket of a taxpayer.
Lilly Leadbeater@mintyhiggins
One of the reasons Wellington has a fantastic hospitality scene and entertainment is because public servants have traditionally had more disposable income to put into the local economy which has a stimulatory effect. It means more eateries, it means more places to buy things

David Bedingham not being awarded a national contract is wild. The guy gave up going into a SA20 Auction to represent his country in NZ where he was our best player and yet he doesn't get rewarded for his performances or patriotism.
Shocking!!

Blocking access to spaces based on ethnicity has an ugly past and has no future in New Zealand. @AucklandUni and any others with segregated spaces owe an explanation to the Kiwis who pay their bills.

@saywhatwhonow @actparty @AucklandUni Ah yes you are right. Just checked my Atlas handbook and forgot that we are only get annoyed if indigenous peoples gain access to something. My bad. Clearly not very good at this equality thing

The story about the use of the Chumbawamba song has been initiated by a leftie shill reporter who proactively sought to call a member of a former band, which disbanded twelve years ago, give their biased appraisal of what was said in my speech, and concocted a ham-fisted attempt at a story that does nothing but show how my comments about these sorts of media organisations are correct.
New Zealand First has not received any cease-and-desist phone call, email, letter, or anything of the sort from the former band nor any other representative – and we don’t expect to.
If the reporter had any clue of the law, and not just some opiniated fake news headline, they wouldn’t have bothered publishing this nonsense.

@actparty @Parmjeet_Parmar Brilliant. More relentless focus on reducing the cost of living

New bill removes employers’ requirement to collect union dues
Employers will no longer be obligated to automatically deduct fees from union members’ pay if a bill lodged in Parliament’s ballot by ACT MP @Parmjeet_Parmar is drawn and passes.
“Currently, the Employment Relations Act makes employers responsible for separating union fees from wages and salaries, and passing those fees on to the relevant union. This is an administrative burden, imposed by law, apparently intended to tilt the playing field in favour of unions at the expense of businesses," says Dr Parmar.
“ACT believes union membership is a private agreement between a worker and a union. If a union wants to take fees from workers’ wages, that union should be responsible for the administrative process.
“Of course, a union could still request an employer to manage the fee collection, but under my bill such an outcome would have to be agreed by both sides as part of a negotiation.
“Ultimately, this simple law change will free up more time and resources for employers to dedicate to their business and customers. It’s a small but meaningful step in lifting productivity and economic growth.”

The Hurricanes may well lose support and viewers because the CEO has a bunch of naive players damaging the brand by attempting to wade into partisan political activism without any concept of reality. They are trying to insult the government but are instead now just slapping the Hurricane brand and CEO in the face. Go woke go broke.
