XMTP Network update to start the year... 2026 is about to rock and roll. Since launching v3 about 7 months ago, the network has processed over 228 million messages, 103 million chat messages, 15 million identity registrations, and 110 million other system messages. The World Chat launch on December 11 marked a significant moment. In less than a month, the network has handled 23.4 million chat messages, more than double the daily average we saw before. That's an additional 10.7 million messages above what baseline activity over the prior 30 days would have predicted. Identity registrations have followed a similar trajectory, with 2.1 million new registrations representing roughly 800,000 more than we'd expect from baseline growth.

When you have Signal level security as a foundation, it changes how we can use apps together. Check out how I use @convosmessenger as a side chat for @useworldapp when only half our group is going to Vegas next week. World is my main chat app with real humans, I want to keep that group forever, and I don’t want to blow up the World Chat since only half of the group is going to Vegas. Also, everything that happens in Vegas doesn’t need to last forever. Ya know, all the logistics. The coolest part is that I know who’s invited to the group, but I don’t have to share my name inside the group. We all know who’s in the room, but we can’t screenshot and expose who’s in the room. I can truly protect my identity and if someone screenshots or records the Convos you can’t prove who said what. It’s a truly safe space to share, a screenshot doesn’t have to reveal your phone number or identity. You choose how you show up. This is what I don’t get from Signal at all. And since there’s no sign up for Convos, new people can literally just pop into a Convo. Using apps together for different moments and use cases that ALL have Signal level security changes how I think about communication in the future. It’s a whole new world. Sunday night, since I started the Convo, I can explode it. Burns the keys on everyone’s devices, deletes the convo for everyone, and then we go back to World Chat and just pick up where we left off with the whole group. What happens in Vegas actually stays nowhere. Convos is the Off The Record messenger. And it’s perfect to use with any On The Record messenger like Signal, WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage etc where you have a single phone number and username.
