Meta has been planning cuts of up to 20% of its entire workforce, roughly 15,800 jobs to offset its aggressive spending on AI infrastructure, which is expected to reach $135 billion in 2026. The metaverse bet failed. The AI bet is expensive. Someone has to pay for it and right now that someone is Meta's workforce.
