All eras of peace were achieved through successful wars. “Peace is the buzzing of summer insects between long winters.”
Pope Leo XIV@Pontifex

God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.

Has a public figure died with anywhere near this degree of grace and magnanimity in our lifetimes? The only other example that comes to mind is John Paul II. Simply inspirational.
Rod Dreher@roddreher

Ben Sasse has the face of Christ. His bloodied visage is the result of treatment for his pancreatic cancer; the new treatment might give him a few more months. Read or listen to the interview. It's staggering, this man's hope and faith. nytimes.com/2026/04/09/opi…

If conservatism was a real political movement Nick Shirley would be given a sinecure and a production staff that would allow his operation to scale and produce a relentless string of exposes pummeling the public with stories like this
Cernovich@Cernovich

Nick Shirley's efforts have led to billions in fraud being discovered, stopped, and in some cases, prosecutions. But what does he get? Journalists like Nick create massive amounts of value, and capture almost none of it. "Do the right thing," is great, and doesn't pay the bills.

@philthatremains @CaseySoftware The proper target for most vigilantism is the judges that release criminals. A few magistrates is all it would take, probably. I mean, hypothetically. if vigilantism wasn’t a no good very bad thing.

@4eChapman @SarahisCensored @PhillipNewcome2 There are things he doesn't know he doesn't know. But there are times I wonder if he's part of what Bannon was doing. My jury is still out. I do lean to Bannonite though. Not sure how that ties into this story though.

@SarahisCensored @katechon33 @PhillipNewcome2 This kind of stuff is so ridiculous. The true story is plenty bad; why does he feel it’s necessary to exaggerate? He just creates the opportunity for people to dismiss the entire story

He is implying they bought the house pictured. They didn’t. They rented it for 3600 BEFORE the stabbing. Then the father tried to say he was broke to the judge. Then they moved. They didn’t raise 1.4. They raised just over 500k. And sold merch. The GOAL was 1.4. I reported on this case in detail from day one and I payed a price for it. And I’ll never shut up about it no matter how much they threaten me. The facts are much worse than the rumors.

@TheLastRefuge2 I know many SP people. I may not be able to sign on to their theology, but when my area of WNC was devastated by Helene, it was pretty much ONLY SP and local churches doing the things that needed doing. This is worthy of an F bomb on Holy Week. Tucker can fuck off.

@GigaBasedDad Nailed the attitude and joy of Orthodox at Pascha but there’s no room to move around like that and there are kids asleep everywhere on the ground…that dude would have trampled like 20 in one lap.

@sethjlevy It has been fantastic to see the Bannonites revealed. A little worried about my discernment though. I was a fan of many of them for a long time.

@digitalcjc @The_Idol_Killer @yesiwetmyplants If salvation is just the key card to the great gated community in the sky, Christ’s act on the cross is only necessary to satisfy the capricious whims of a (separate) “God the Father.” Soteriology is inseparable from Christology.

@Lisa2937123715 @chriswithans @BrandonMONeal Whole situation is a mess. A widow paying $2100/3600 is a non-starter in most situations. Renegotiate mortgage, make more money, or sell are only options. If sell, mom has more in it than them. Split is actually generous. I’d be surprised if there was enough $ for beau to chase.

@chriswithans @BrandonMONeal Actually it sounds like mom's new beau is a grifter and once she gets her money, he will live large until shes living in their guest bedroom. Next time people need a business contract.

Just a heard a Dave Ramsey call from a woman in Tennessee who said she and her husband bought a home to live in with her husband's parents. Put in $100,000 in equity each. New home build, finished in September 2024. $3600/mo mortgage, split $1500 for them and $2100 from her husband's parents. Anyway, her father-in-law passes away in June of 2025. Her mother proceeds to meet a new man and says she's not going to pay her share of the mortgage anymore, and that she wants half of the proceeds when the home is sold. They are being forced to sell the home immediately because her mother-in-law said she won't pay any part of the mortgage.

@lyndiewarren @BretWeinstein It was a reference to his book. Love or hate him, he has been remarkably consistent in application of the strategies he outlined in 1987. That those methods upset a lot of people is a feature, not a bug. Whatever happens in the next 24 hours, think back on this in a week or so.

The President's threat against Iran is genocidal, even by the strictest definition. It may be bluster, but that does not change our obligation. To work, a threat must be credible, and we must act accordingly. We attacked Iran. Any order to escalate our attack with nuclear weapons would clearly be immoral, and must therefore be rejected by every person in the chain of command. Anyone who carried such an order forward would become immediately complicit. That is the lesson of history, and those who fail it will be judged harshly by it--and by God. We can't have a Commander in Chief who threatens civilians, idly or in earnest. The President must be removed from office, for the good of the Republic, and the world.
