Ik draaide mij om en zei: “Excuseer, wat zei u?” tegen een man van rond de 65 jaar. “Gij had al lang dood moet zijn”, riep die, “Hopelijk duurt dat niet lang meer, hé!”. Aan de kassa stond hij twee karretjes voor mij. “Onnozel manneke!”, riep hij nog. Ik dacht bij mezelf dat er geen dichter verloren was gegaan aan deze heldhaftige strijder.
