Year 1 & 2 at Old Church Primary have really enjoyed creating these ‘London landmarks’ this week, with all 120 kids joining in over the four days. I love everything about these. Special. 😊 darrellwakelam.com

@lucymakesstuff Hi Lucy! Brilliant to hear you'll be at the workshop! Really just bring any drawing materials you like - but there will be lots of drawing materials and all the paper/collage/glue type stuff. It's great to be able to photograph stuff as you go along - so mobile phone also good!

@Cunobaros I have also stopped being able to read books, since becoming a parent. It’s weird and I hate it. I too still buy new books.

@makesmilk My son is just over three and a lot of this resonates for me. I was lucky he was born before lockdown, but a lot of maternity leave, early support and so on was massively affected.

There are are generation of mothers whose children are about to turn 3 who really need support. They are negotiating boundaries, ending breastfeeding, sleep issues and feeling more isolated than new parents usually do. Many struggle to have a ‘village’ but this is often extreme.

@UrsulaV Hah, my one of these is Japanese. I did manage to let the Tokyo house-hunt agency know that they were sending appointments to the wrong person. But the clothing boutique newsletters etc just keep coming.

Sigh. I see that the person who keeps putting my gmail address in as theirs is applying for jobs this week. I wish you luck, fellow Ursula, but I will not be showing up to work at a hotel in South Joilet.

@Handsome_Frank I loved this one, the warm greens of the moss were so comforting to paint. Then you have the shifting grain of riso which perfectly encapsulates a memory of a cloudy day in Scotland. Art ey, who knew.

Ok, let's do this again. Post your favourite piece of work from 2022 ... let's create a beautiful thread for all those art directors looking to commission work in 2023.

@HannahLPeck This 2015 April Fool seems to be misleading some people despite the disclaimer… (photo from children’s book from library, details not shared to save author from embarrassment but happy to put in DM!). coolearth.org/news/singing-o…

@ADHDdesigner Unfortunately, it’s my own hair. Just a certain bit of it, when in particular moods, but if it’s not pulled into a hairband Just Right I can spend FOREVER pulling and fidgeting with it. 😒

#askADHD What's your most annoying sensory issue? How do you deal with it? Mine is acrylic knit fabric, and I deal with it by only buying bougie wool clothing.

@AdamJFarrer Aged about 7, I was supposed to be “Mamma in her kerchief” in The Night Before Christmas. Then I did something bad, possibly, I don’t know what, and was demoted to one of the 8 reindeer. I have not forgotten this in 33 years.

An ex once told me that she got the lead in her primary school production of The Ugly Duckling but when it came time to transform into a beautiful swan they swapped her for another girl. A genuine “I think about this all the time” situation.

@DisabledJess @MediocreDave @Chican3ry It is bizarre. There’s whole stacks of classic kids’ lit where the parents inc mothers are absent (lack of parents = easier for child characters to have adventures/mild peril), are all of those erasing mothers too? Not all stories or characters have to be the same. 😩

I'm not claiming to be an expert but I think I've spent an above average amount of time and effort trying to understand the ideology of the gender critical feminist movement and I cannot even begin to fathom what grievance she's pretending to have here.
Maya Forstater@MForstater

So where does this infant (who "takes they/them pronouns" parents are told) come from? Where are its parents? Did it hatch from an egg or was it born from a mama? Who looks after its interests? Ask these questions and you get the usual "you are obsessing about genitals".

@svershbow My son has my last name and my husband made my last name his middle name (he didn’t have one before), keeping his own surname. So we all share my surname somewhere in our names! Our families haven’t quite grasped it but it’s all good :)

So many of my friends change their name, not for their husbands but to have the same last name as their future children (reasonable!), but the idea of the kids having their last name never comes up. The assumption is devastating when you think about it.

I know feminism is about personal choice but the older I get the harder of a time I have accepting that women are expected to change their name after marriage and that their children almost always get the father's name for no reason other than because the patriarchy said so.

I did another "why deaf people don't hear like hearing people" training today. I keep wondering if I could do an online one mainly aimed at deaf/HOH people and raise enough money from tickets (on a sliding scale) to cover BSL/STTR + £ for my time. Would folk be interested?
