@nikicaga But even in hindsight this doesn’t make sence since the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact ceded Finland to the Soviet. So this was just a plan to take over the Finns defencive lines in Carelia first without a fight. And then launch the full scale invasion.

While the Soviet invasion of Finland was obviously horrible, it seems clear to me that the Finns should have accepted the Soviet land trade offer
They ended up losing way more land despite winning the war!
