Wow man. Having this happen in our city just plain sucks. We had the easiest path to the Final Four. Even with elite defense, it couldn’t make up for the nonexistent offense. You need to be able to get dirt cheap buckets in tough stretches if you want to win a natty.

Hot take: I think Brad Underwood is a pretty damn good basketball coach. Two times in three years among the final 16 programs alive nationally for the first time since 2004-05. Don’t take it for granted.

Honestly, Tomislav Ivisic was more deserving of a technical for that hang-on-the-rim dunk than RJ Melendez. (Glad they didn't call it) #illini up 71-51 with 3:28 left.

@CollegeHoopsTIk Despite the FT disparity, there were several calls against Illinois that were terrible; looked like an effort to try even out the number of calls made against each team.

To the VCU fans that are inevitably going to complain about free throw disparity, I say this respectfully as a Big Ten account. Illinois is known for not fouling. They’re one of the best teams I’ve ever seen at going straight up.

Ben Humrichous has really evolved into an elite glue player. For a guy that took a lot of criticism for not living up to the shooter/ scorer he was recruited to be, his defensive leap has impressed me a lot. He does all the small things so, so well.
