Ok, so I’ve since learned NZ nitrofuranton isn’t the same as uk nitrofuranton :(. I specifically asked my gp for the 100mg 2 x day but since it’s not the special release one, I should have stayed on 50mg 4 x day. Should I cut my hard pills in half and administer 4x a day?

@JamesMaloneLee3 why is 100mg nitrofuranton 2 x daily preferred over 50mg 4 x daily? Isn’t it the same maths at the end of the day?

@JamesMaloneLee3 Methenamine + vit c irritated my uretha and felt similar to early uti symptoms. Could I half dose and try again?

Provided that it can be tolerated and that it does not aggravate urethral pain, given time, Methenamine could prove effective. It believed to inhibit escaping microbes from making the journey to find new baby cells to parasitise. Methenamine appears effective, albeit slow.

@JamesMaloneLee3 do you have any/many women who you treat with Methenamine alone?

Certainly the hare brained idea of starting prophylaxis at ultra low dose which unfortunately made it into most guidelines is helping fuel resistance !

@helenwheeler3 @CMO_England @PHE_uk @vmdgovuk And this is basic, basic science. Treat an infection with an inadequate dose of antibiotics and you are basically rolling out the red carpet for bacterial resistance. You are also increasing the inviting a simple infection to turn deadly or chronic.

Of course it is. Incomplete or inadequate treatment is solely responsible for this condition.

@Uro_News You can't diagnose #IC/#BPS when tests to rule out chronic infection are unreliable. You should all be pushing for #bettertestingforUTI instead of dishing out life sentences to everyone with an inflamed bladder & a negative urine test. A severe #chronicUTI looks the same as #BPS
