@phil_nash Set dave to work with a spanner - should be working now.
English

@thebabblewagon the website and podcast feed seems to be down (I was still working through back episodes) - is that deliberate?
English

@scottishphil83 @thomasforth Broadly agree with you (I have one - small terraced house; borrowed ££ to fund the install) but prices are falling v fast. Now some energy companies (octopus, BG) are offering installs at v low costs once the BUS grant (£7.5k) taken into account. Some as little as £1k.
English

@rickymidlands @scottishphil83 @thomasforth Surprisingly hard to get answers to some of these fairly basic questions. @_heatgeek have excellent written and youtube explainers of most of it, worth checking them out.
English

@rickymidlands @scottishphil83 @thomasforth They don't produce instant hot water in the same way a combi boiler does, correct. That's why heat pump installs include a hot water cylinder if you don't have one already. The effect is the same though - hot water comes out of the taps / showers when you turn them on.
English

@scottishphil83 @thomasforth Is it also true they can't do instant hot water? For doing the dishes, showers, cleaning, etc?
English

@per_hansen @ACJSissons Hi! I have installed a heat pump in my traditional 1900s house and the house is toastier than it was with gas and I have plenty of really hot water.
English

@ACJSissons I have yet to hear of a single person who has installed a heat pump in their traditional 1930s house saying the house is still as toasty as with gas and they still have plenty of really hot water. All I see are people complaining about how cold their house is now!
English

This is a good question. Why have heat pumps become a bit of a contentious topic in the UK?
I'm late to it, but wanted to have a proper go at answering it...
🧵
Tom Forth@thomasforth
I'm proper fascinated by how the general vibes around heatpumps in Britain became so negative (at worst) or indifferent (at best). I am hugely sceptical of the top answer I've been given (right wing media bias and an anti-expert society) by most people I've asked about it.
English

@paullewismoney Hi Paul, I have a heat pump and have had my gas meter removed and the supply capped. Octopus removed the meter for free after I transferred to them from Bulb, who wanted to charge me £350 for the privilege.

@kitty_donaldson @TimesRadio No more striking than when Osborne said it 12 years ago theguardian.com/environment/20…

English

Striking phrase from Home Secretary Suella Braverman to @TimesRadio on the net zero row
"We are not going to save the planet by bankrupting British people," she says

First, this form of climate denial is nothing new. Any @thebabblewagon listeners out there will instantly recognise the name James Inhofe, US senator famous for “proving” climate change isn’t real by presenting a snowball to the senate in 2015 🙄youtu.be/UXtG8GrW6EQ
